Bottle from the Shops at Dartington. Appearance - deep amber to brown with a nice off white head. Nose - toffee, caramel and orange. Taste - brown bread with a dried orange note. Palate - medium bodied slightly sweet but tangy at the same time. Fairly balanced finish. Overall - good example of the style.

Third, cask at Crosse Keys (JDW). Shared with Finn. Almost black in the glass, minimal lacing, naked at the surface. Dark fruity nose, hints of coffee. Similar taste of coffee, bread and dark fruits. Lightly roasted malt-driven end. Likable. (City, London 19.10.2019).

Very dark brown with creamy head. Aroma and flavour are initially quite mild with dark malts. Finish is where all the roasted coffee comes through.

Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading. Served way too cold, which is odd as the other beers I had were at an ideal temperature. Black with a thin beige head. Watery, in fact far too watery for the style. Coffee is obvious throughout. It's sweetish with a hint of spiced caramel and a whisper of wood. But mainly it tastes of watery coffee. It's ok.
