Description
Arkell’s Brewery was established in 1843 by John Arkell and 175 years later, is one of less than thirty family breweries remaining in the UK. As Swindon’s oldest business, Arkell’s has kept its founding values alive and continues to produce local beer for local customers. These values have been continued by the four family members in charge today; Chairman James Arkell, his cousin Nick Arkell, Head of Sales, and James’ sons George Arkell, and Alex Arkell are Managing Director and Head Brewer respectively.

Cask at the Stag, Stow On The Wold, 23/11/24. Clear golden topped with a lasting white head. Nose is pale malts, citric tinged straw, soft malts, hint of honey. Taste comprises pale malts, orange peel, light breads, floral whisper. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close doused with modest hop bitterness. Passable cask pale ... sips okay I suppose. Bit silly marketing this as an IPA and to quote the brewery ... 'full flavoured' in 2024! Do they never get out and try other beers on the market?

Keg at the Stag, Stow On The Wold, 23/11/24. Clear golden topped with a white head. Nose is orange zest, grapefruit, pine nip, melon. Taste comprises airy malts, grass, faint grapefruit, tangerine. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with light juicy hop bitterness. Passable entry level craft ... okay for a quick half but a little on the sweet side and lacking bitterness so I'd struggle with more.

500ml bottle (4.2% ABV): BB 10th January 2025, drank at home on 16th October 2024. Clean old golden body, white crown. Hop forward and getting more bitter with each sip, in fact it was almost a harsh hop finish. Liked the first sip's more than the later ones.
