Handpull cask from the Salmon, Leicester. Copper brown and clear with a beige/khaki head. Spicy and nutty aroma with light metallic notes. Sweet taste, slightly nutty again with caramel and some light stone fruit. Soft carbonation on a medium body. A very well-crafted bitter.

[50cl bottle from the local beer selection at the Co-Op, Milton, Staffs.] A pale golden pour with a thin white head and light carbonation; aroma of damp straw; sweet grainy taste with a trace of honey; and a very light grassy bitterness. Much better than an equivalent macro lager.

Cask at Moon under Water, Wolverhampton. Pours a copper red with a tight white head and good lacing. A malt nose is echoed in the mouth, where the taste is predominantly malted milk biscuits. Also some toffee and hints of spices. A bit watery but that is a good thing. Finish is bitter and hoppy. A nice solid traditional bitter.

Handpull cask at the Borehole, Stone. Light brownish gold, very translucent with a small uneven beige head. Bready malt-led aroma with a small hint of smoke. It tastes surprisingly sweet with notes of tangerine and orhcard fruits. There's a pleasant smoky flavour but its much milder than the apocalyptic name suggests. Finish is short and body is a bit watery, but not enough to ruin the overall experience. Decent.

Keg at the Borehole, Stone. Very dark, almost black with a very small tan head. Charcoal, fresh grass, some caraway in the aroma. Sweet, herbal taste, with strong notes of liquorice, thyme, bitter unripe blackberry. Chalky bitterness in the finish. Carbonated to hell and back, which quite suites the heaviness of the beer. A top, top stout.

Cask, half-pint, hand-pulled on 9th Oct 2019; William Withering, a Wetherspoon's Pub in Wellington, Shropshire. Light golden pour, clear and clean, lasting white crown on top. Citrus leanings with a lychee sweetness in both the aroma and taste. Think the pump-clip mentioned Japanese Hops? Pleasant enough anyway.

Cask at Picture House, Stafford – served too cold so may require a rerate Nose has dark fruits – probably blueberries. Pours a very dark ruby red. In the mouth fruityness predominates with plums noticeable. But there is also bready malts and hints of coffee and caramel. Finish is blackberries with a bit of malt. Watery and not as nice as I remember it being.
