Cask at The White Swan, Solihull. Clear dark gold with off white top. Some buttery dough with citrus, flora, yeast and pine with reasonable bitterness for a gold. Medium bodied, semi-dry. It grew on me nicely with repeated sips, certainly not bland although maybe a slight acrid aftertaste.

Cask at Borehole, Stone. Pours “bitter brown” with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. The aroma is a decent mix of malts, honey and nuts. Malts to the fore again in the mouth, where sweetness overlays some bitter hops, with a creamy texture. Quite a bit of ginger too plus traces of marmalade and lemon leading to a slightly dry and bitter finish. This is a decent best bitter.

Fra cask på Mossy Well: lett uklar gylden med fint skum som varer. Balansert fruktig anslag, behagelig urtebitterhet og fin maltsødme i avslutningen.

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours golden amber with a small off-white head. Malts to the fore in the aroma, plus hints of marmalade. In the mouth it is sweet and fruity with a slightly creamy texture. Flavour has malts and oranges plus a little underlying caramel. Hints of pepper and ginger come through later, leading to a slightly spicy finish. This is decent enough – though I wasn’t expecting such a strong beer from the name !

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours a deep copper with a small off-white head and good lacing. Rich buttery malts are to the fore in the aroma. In the mouth it is slightly sweet with a creamy texture but some underlying bitterness too. Malts and fudge are the main flavours at the start, but later there are some hops and spices with hints of oregano and almonds, leading to a decidedly bitter finish where some alcoholic strength is evident. This is decent.

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours a cloudy chestnut with a small foamy white head. Corn is the main ingredient of the fluctuating aroma alongside hints of floral hops and autumn fruits. In the mouth it is sweet and quite juicy with a creamy texture. Main flavours start off as being oranges and malts, but later on caramel, biscuits and traces of floral hops come through as well. Finish is slightly fruity. It’s not a bad beer, just not very exciting.

[May 2022] Amber pour with a small frothy white head and a sweet fruity aroma, also a bit dusty. Toffee sweet flavour and a hint of bitterness in the finish, a little disappointing truth be told
