Description
At Ashover Brewery we have been producing some of the finest ales with local Derbyshire produce since 2007.

Unlike most breweries we prefer to source our flavourings from local suppliers, home growers and farms as well as our own foraging efforts.

Ashover brewery was founded in 2007 by Roy Shorrock & Kim Beresford at the Old Poets Corner public house in Ashover Chesterfield Derbyshire to bring the local real ale enthusiast something exciting in their local pub. Very quickly after experimenting with flavours and brewing techniques the popularity of the beers grew and so did the range.

Ashover Brewery continued to grow and brew at the Old Poets Corner right up to 2015 when demand got so high that Kim & Roy had no choice than to expand in to an industrial unit in Clay Cross and run efforts at both sites for a short time.

Clear dark yellow colour with thin soapy head. Light malty sweetness. A little plain. Just a touch of fruity hop. Quite watery.

Liquorice by name and liquorice by nature ! Pours almost black with a small beige head and good lacing. Lots of liquorice in the nose and tons more in the mouth. Some aniseed and roast malts too. Almost forgot – cask at Alexandra, Derby.

500ml bottle bought from the Offie, Leicester and drunk at home. Slightly reddish brown with a little ring of beige/khaki head. Quite a lot of vanilla in the aroma, with some earthy notes and some cooking chocolate.More vanilla in the taste but it isn't overly sweet; it actually has a good wallop of hop bitterness in the finish. Soft to medium carbonation. It's pretty decent all in all but I feel like the vanilla, lush as it is, papers over the cracks of a slightly less exciting beer.

Handpull cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. It's ruby brown and clear with a small beige head and lots of lacing. Deep chocolate malts in the aroma with touches of vanilla and toffee. It's sweet all right, but it doesn't run away with the sweetness; there's a bitter hoppy character that takes precedent in the finish. Full oily body with low to medium carbonation. My goodness.

Specially selected for my 1000th rate. Swap from a friend. Has a strange aroma of wet earth mixed with chocolate and a hint of lime. Pours a murky reddish brown with a small beige head. Quite a melange of flavours in the mouth, oranges. Chocolate, roasted malts and tropical fruits. Sweet malts and caramel come through later, after the initial bitterness has subsided. Finish is dry and treacly. Nice and hides it’s strength well, but not as sublime as I was expecting.

Handpull cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Very dark brown, mostly opaque with a loose beige/khaki head. Big chocolate and coffee notes in the aroma. Sweet taste with a harsh vegetal character which really. Ruins what may have been an otherwise good beer (shame as it is fresh on as well). Thick body with soft carbonation. Still drinkable but passable as opposed to excellent.

Cask at the Great British Beer Festival 2017, day one - London. Pours clear very pale yellow with a light, creamy white head. Rich elderflower aroma, lemon peel, green pepper. Light sweet flavour with more hefty elderflower notes, light potpourri, hay. Light bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Finishes lightly dry with more green pepper. Good stuff in a novelty kind of way.

Cask at Smithfield, Derby – pretty sure it said 3.6%. Pours a pale straw (almost greenish tinge) with a small white head. Some caramel in the aroma but only light. Floral hops and elderflower in the mouth, but again only light. Drinkable, even swiggable, but pretty bland really.
