Description
Kestrel lager was a hugely popular and successful brand in the 1980s and 1990s when it was supported with much-enjoyed advertising campaigns featuring the comedians and actors Hugh Laurie and Russ Abbot. Having maintained a loyal following in subsequent years, in 2012 its quality and potential were recognised by Nigel McNally, who decided to take the bold step of purchasing the Kestrel lager beer brand and setting up the Kestrel Brewing Company in order to nurture and develop it.
Under his stewardship the Kestrel brand has now returned to its Scottish roots and is being brewed at a state-of-the-art facility in Glasgow, adjacent to Glasgow Cathedral. Brewing has taken place at the site since 1556, making it the oldest continuous commercial concern in Glasgow.

Dark gold with a medium sized white head. Tangy, quite boozy and somewhat yeasty. As it warmed a light golden fruit note came out and caused me to pop the score up a bit. Long boozy finish. Medium body.

Oh boy! Big stovepipe can of malt likkah! Pours like malt likkah, smells scary like malt likkah and of course it tastes like boozy malt likkah! Must be malt likkah! Very strong alky backbone, just like the glass screw top quarts and 40's we buy over here in mericka in a brown paper bag. Slight warming sensation flowing down the throat. Very difficult to drink, quite uncouth coarse rough & boorish. I guess there is one thing this vulgar mess is supposed to do and it does it well; kick yer brain's ass for a spin around the block, hehehehh. Tho holy brewing method? Holy moley! It's uncultured uncultivated benighted unsophisticated unrefined and unpolished, whew. If this is holy, it must be from the church of the notorious Crowley; the English occultist, ceremonial magician, writer, and mountaineer who preached free will, famously known as Aleister, the wickedest man in the world. In the middle, this stuff is tuff; durable strong resilient resistant sturdy rugged firm solid and substantial. I think you could use it to lift permanent marker off a cement floor. In the end, its just one big ass kicker with a mild gag reflex. All together now, lets retch heave keck convulse and choke all at the same time. Its stuff like this that gives cheap pale macro lager a bad name. There, you have it. Right down there with Camo, Dog Bite, Hurricane and forbid, Steel Reserve.

Can from B&M, Sheldon, Birmingham. States that's it is brewed on behalf of BDI Limited, Malta so not sure if the brand has been sold on. Pours a clear gold, small white head, some retention. Standard. Aroma is sweet with corn and grain, light hop with spice. Taste is mainly sweet basic malt, corn and grass although there is a light tang and tingle of spice from the hop. Its not too bad for a macro lager.

Lattina.
