Description
Kestrel lager was a hugely popular and successful brand in the 1980s and 1990s when it was supported with much-enjoyed advertising campaigns featuring the comedians and actors Hugh Laurie and Russ Abbot. Having maintained a loyal following in subsequent years, in 2012 its quality and potential were recognised by Nigel McNally, who decided to take the bold step of purchasing the Kestrel lager beer brand and setting up the Kestrel Brewing Company in order to nurture and develop it.
Under his stewardship the Kestrel brand has now returned to its Scottish roots and is being brewed at a state-of-the-art facility in Glasgow, adjacent to Glasgow Cathedral. Brewing has taken place at the site since 1556, making it the oldest continuous commercial concern in Glasgow.

[as Kestrel Premium Lager, ABV 4.6%] Lattina.

Two 500ml cans, 'Born In Scotland' but brewed God knows where? Both had a BBD of 17th September 2022. Drank in the afternoon sun on my patio on 19th March 2022. Clean and clear golden body, snow white head (which departed pretty swiftly). Grainy front to the nose and taste, not much else going on to be honest.

[50cl can from B&M, Reading.] A straw coloured pour with a fast fading white head and moderate carbonation; sweet hay aroma; grassy taste with some honey; and a dry floral finish. Slightly above average for a macro lager.

1st BBQ of the year: 30th Mar 2021, it's Bertie's Birthday, so I decided to get rid of all my shit stuff in one long drunken session. This was the eight and final one, thank goodness I stopped! 500ml can: BB Sep 2021. I've got a headache.

Can from a newsagent in West Byfleet. Aroma had dough and paint stripper. Light gold. Bubbly. Foamy frothy white head. Medium bitter, sour tinged, boozy gluey flavour. Sweet doughy underbelly. Light bodied. Thin. Fizzy carbonation. Long astringent. Just tasted likes it'll be stripping yer insides. Doesn't have the sweetness that often masks the booze and chemicals that some of these tramp juices have.

440ml can. Look - very clear and very pale; ominous Nose - artificial, sulphur, apples; ominous Taste - sweeteners, apple flavouring, minor alcohol burn; very poor but not a drain pour. Palate - light bodied at first and yet very dry to the extent of being rubbery in texture. How does that work? Also element of tooth rot feeling. Overall - Its one of those extremely slow poisons that just passes health and safety. Drink a can a day for 10 years and you will have aged by 15 years and be wearing dentures.
