Description
Brewing ceased in April 2022. A Shropshire brewery has shut due to "unfavourable trading conditions".
The Wood Brewery was founded by Edward Wood, his brother and his father in the outbuildings of the Plough Inn in Wistanstow, Shropshire in 1980. Wood’s was one of the founding members of the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) and a firm supporter of CAMRA. At a time when there was a surge of keg beer companies flooding the market and threatening the existence of traditional English ale, Wood’s championed the traditionally brewed product and ensured it remained a firm favourite in the county.
Wood’s has been at the forefront of Shropshire brewing since then and continues to be after it was taken over by new owners in 2018. The new owners have worked with the existing team to make a range of impactful and progressive changes to the brewing process and quality control, to ensure that Wood’s beer is of the highest possible quality. By continuing to make consistent and innovative products, the brewery can remain successful in an increasingly crowded market place.

Deep amber with a foamy, off-white head. Aroma of fruit malt and caramel, the mouthfeel is a touch earthy, and the taste is sweet malt with some bitterness and it’s a little sulphurous, leaves a dry and bitter aftertaste

Cask-conditioned, on gravity, at the Tewkesbury Winter Ales Festival, 7/2/2020. Deep brown in colour, with a thin, off-white, head. A malty beer with some leafy hops, caramel and a moderately bitter finish. Ok.

Cask @ Stretton Alehouse after a Hopton Woods session. Golden yellow appearance, modest white head. Light mellow floral fruits provide the bulk of the character here with a drying close. Straightforward but has a satisfying gentle sweetness coursing through.

Cask at Nags Head. Half-pint shared with Finn. Next-to-clear late straw coloured body, spotty lacing, bubbly white head. Moderate aroma of caramel malts and grass. Herbal fruity flavours followed by a distant leafy hop bitterness to the ending. Satisfying. (Great Malvern 01.02.2020).

330ml can, drank at home on 2nd Oct 2019. Clear light golden body, white crown that soon turned into a wisp and collar. Nose is of honey, malty and metallic esters, taste drops the honey for caramel but the metallic twang carries on, marmalade like flavours as it warms in the glass. Strange one.
