Sample from bottle at Jackie O’s BBDA and Oil of Aphrodite Release and Barrel aged Beer Festival on 9/11/10. This beer pours black with a medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing. Roasted coffee and malt in the nose. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee. The finish is roasty with a short moderately bitter coffee aftertaste. Overall a pretty tasty beer in spite of the lower ABV compared to similar brews.

Courtesy of sebletitje. Pours dark brown with light brown edges and tan head. The aroma is an intriguing mix of roastiness, grapefruit and maybe pine hops too. The taste is similar with a pleasing load of grapefruit, pineapple, some pine, earthiness, dark roasted malts and chocolate flavored coffee. Yummy. The hops quickly grow to full on hop bitterness.

Another great OR gem sent by googzoid10. brown pour, mocha head. aroma, nice citrus nose with malty touch. flavors, outstanding new beer style, perfect blend of the citrusy characteristics with the caramel malt blend. This one started on the hoppy side with a nice roasted malt/coffee aftertaste along with notes of chocolate alwasy followed by udnerlying notes of citrus and pine. Enjoyed this one a lot, the perfect marriage of the bitter and the roast, finish with a nice medium carbonation.

Bottle 22fl.oz.Clear dark black color with a large, creamy, excellent lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, coffee, espresso. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, coffee, espresso, dark chocolate, hop and grass notes. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20100629]

Poured from 22 oz bomber I picked up while on vacation in Portland, OR. I’ve heard stories about this brewmaster leaving Flossmoor Station in Illinois to start this brewery, and after drinking I wish we had him back in IL! Aroma is uber-desserty, extremely rich in dark milk chocolate and coffee, roasty. Appearance is pure black with a tan creamy head. It’s not too sweet for the amount of chocolate that I’m sure is in it, also has a great complexity of coffee and milk. I’m really liking this sweet stout.

Bottle. Good coffee aroma, subtle hint of grassy hops. Black colour. Nice stable dark brown head. The flavour has a distinct coffee flavour. Clean and mild, yet flavourful. Some cream also. Late roasted coffee aftertaste.

Sweet bonus courtesy of bvc. Pours hazy amber with thin tan head. The aroma has various spicy notes mixing with black licorice, spicy maple and black strap molasses. The taste is spicy Christmas cookie, nutmeg as well as dried and crusty black strap molasses, black licorice and spicy maple. It has a non trivial amount of age on it but still seems pretty bright and vibrant in flavor.

Doesn’t taste much like a brown. Poured medium cloudy brown. with thin white head. Much lacing. Hoppy aroma like an IPA. Medium to full body and medium hoppiness like a Cape ale. Sweet malty finish something like a brown. It’s called a brown, but not sure where to put this, and the beertender wasn’t either.

Delectable. Called a Cascadian Dark Rye Ale. Poured cola black with medium white head. Grain and hop aroma. Lekker flavour Full all over the mouth breadiness, awoke tastebuds I didn’t know I had. Chewy full body. Lasting rye and hop finish. Was told this was a one-off, makes me sad they aren’t going to bottle this.

Bottle thanks to thirdeye11. Pours with a deep brown body and a small, off-white head. Aroma is oaky, chalky, pine and citrus. Taste is chalky, coffee, piney and quite dry. Lively bubbles.
