Description
We forged Firebrand in 2012 in a converted milking parlour on the untamed edge of Bodmin Moor, North Cornwall. The idea was born from our passion for beer made from all-natural ingredients, Cornish spring water, and American hops.

We brew beer that we love to drink and pride ourselves on our craft. Whether it’s a Hazy Vegan IPA or a Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, we regularly refine and tweak our recipes to brew the best beer we can.

Originally launched because the co-owner and head brewer of Penpont Brewery Joe Thompson wanted to brew a more modern style so Firebrand Brewing Co. was created.

Cask at the Haymarket. Pours clear pale gold, thin white head. Not much on the aroma, light malt and lemon maybe. Taste is similar. Not much hop action, despite the bold claim.

Keg at tap east. Chestnut brown hazy pour with a big frothy cream coloured head that lasts. Aroma is Belgian yeasty, straw and a bit of clove phenol. Flavour is crisp wheaty bready grains with Belgian yeast, mineral and a hint of orange. Really not very much dark malts just a little nutty raisin malt. Palate is frothy on the tongue, high carbonation and a semi crisp finish. Pretty tasty like a dark weizen with Belgian yeast.

Cask at the Post Office Valults, Birmingham. Poured a clear light amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is light grassy hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a grass nettle hop citrus bitter palate. Light bodied witn soft carbonation. Drinkable but doesn’t really float my boat.

Cask at the Victoria, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy white head. The aroma is roasted malt. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet, with a smooth creamy light caramel, chocolate, coffee, roasted malt bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Gorgeous. This is how a stout should be.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Clear, pale amber. Thin, bubbly, white head. Spicy biscuit malt. Fusty orange. Some fruit salad sweets. Taste is light bitter, with some of the spicy dryness. Fairly full palate for the ABV. Well carbonated. Finish is short bitter. Nicely fusty. Liked this one.

On keg at the Craft Beer Rising event at the Drygate brewery. So, plenty of biscuits and spice on the taste. It was a bit grainy on the nose. Fairly balanced overall, though.

On keg at the Craft Beer Rising event at the Drygate Brewery. Unfortunately with this one, there was a cardboard smell on the nose which I thought was strange since that fault is usually found in bottle if it does exist. The taste delivered on a tropical citrus - grapefruit and pineapple combination - with decent bitterness on the finish. I’ll retry this one when I see it next as I wonder if it was in perfect condition on this occasion.
