Cask @ Pelican Bar, Manchester. Dark but clear amber, with a head. Mildly sweet, but only mildly dark-malty too.

I've had some pretty poor attempts at Brown Ales recently, but this isn't one of those. Showcases the style perfectly, surprisingly quaffable for 5.1%

Keg @ Nightjar, Hebden Bridge. Black with a thin off-white head. Has A gentile barrel-aged character allowing quite a crisp tasting chocolate flavour through.

Solid mild, nutty aroma with bit of yeast and chocolate too. Smooth and silky, nutty with subdued malt, some berry fruit and a dry finish

Can from the Thirst Class Ales Brewery Webshop. Copper red pour with a beige head. Rich aromas of figs, dates, treacle toffee, nuts, caramel, toffee apple. Flavours of dates, toffee, brown sugar, quite nutty, dried fruits, light bourbon. Boozy sweet warming finish. Exactly how a barley wine should be.
