Cask handpull at Thomas Ingoldsby jdw Canterbury. Dark brown colour lasting beige head. Little bit of ester on the aroma. Some chocolate in the flavour. Some hop. I mean there are very few English Dunkel weizen. It’s got some elements of one some dryness on the finish but it’s a little restrained.

Bottle courtesy of BlackHaddock at the Shrewsbury tasting on Oct 5, thanks all! Picture of a tank on the label earns this one an extra point for appearance. Slightly hazy golden amber color, white edge head. Malty aroma. Taste is slightly oxidized caramel. Decent.

500ml bottle @ Shrewsbury Beer Share, Travlr edition, Oct 15, courtesy of Jeremiah Haddock. Pours deep gold with a sweet malty aroma. Taste is a little dusty, thin and flat with tired malts appearing a little faded & burnt-out. Wasn’t destined to be the beer of the night.

500ml bottle: the first beer in a relaxed tasting session with the Shrewsbury beer exchange group and a guest called Gene. I brought this to the tasting because i thought it would be interesting and different for our guest. it wasn’t. Golden pour with a white top, looked OK, the bottle labelling was OK too: it went downhill a little from there. Malts rule the brew in both the nose and flavour, semi-sweet molasses dominate a pretty unbalanced and sadly bland beer. Saved only by my sweet tooth which picked up on and liked the caramel flavours.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. A clear deep chestnut colour with a loose cream head; distinct wheat beer aroma, grainy and sweet with some cloves, rather incongrous given the look of the beer; then a soft smooth grainy body with lots of sweet banana to start, then becoming drier with a touch of bitterness; with lingering banana and clove. An interesting beer.

Cask-conditioned at the Gryphon, Bristol, 22/9/2015. Medium brown in colour with a decent, off-white, head. Malty beer, with plenty of brown sugar, berry fruits, some slightly toasty malts and a hint of chocolate before a gently bitter finish. The best Dorset beer I have tired for a long while.

Cask at the commercial rooms bristol. Hazed chestnut brown coloured pour with a lasting greyish cream coloured head. Aroma is sweet toffee, rye bread, mineral. A little stale on the nose. Flavour is composed of sweet caramel and toffee, brown bread, a little under attenuated. Palate us medium sweet, lowish cask condition. Lingering banana bread.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 25/8/2015. Amber with a thin, white, head. Slight and sweet aroma of stone fruit and warming alcohol. Flavour of heavy and sweet cereal grains, more fruit, leading to a boozy, hop free, finish. I wish I had stuck to the standard range of bitters on sale.
