Cask (Old Green Tree, Bath) - Dark brown with red tinges. Blackcurrant, dried fruit and some nutty hints in the aroma. The taste is nicely balanced with blackcurrant, raisins, chestnuts and cocoa detected.

Cask at moon under water jdw Watford. As Dorset Midnight Blinder. Opaque dark brown coloured pour with a thin creamy head. Aroma is coco powder, dry grains, tangy apple, musty, burnt toast. Flavour is composed of dry roasted grains, slight burnt toast, liquorice, black malt, dried apple. Palate is medium light bodied, moderate carbonation, semi sweet. OK.

Cask at the Monk’s Retreat, Reading. Deep amber with a thin off-white head and a light fizz. Oaky, wood notes with a little vanilla. Some over-ripe banana. Bit of grubbiness round the edges. Little bit of ginger at the end. Nice to see something a little bit different. It grew on me, although possibly not quite enough.

Bottle on holiday in Lyme Regis. Clear amber beer, thin white head. Palate is light and fairly dry. Fine carbonation. Lacto sweet thin malts. Modest dried fruits. Light finish. Quite a creamy sweet caramel bitter.

Cask at the Alehouse, Reading. One of those occasions where it seems that the beer I’ve been drinking isn’t the same as the one described here - to me, this was more of a porter than an amber ale. A deep mahogany colour with a tight cream head; oaty aroma; soft oaty taste with a sweet milky body and some berry fruit; then a dry chocolatey finish. Good, whatever it is.

Cask at the Shakespeare’s Head, JDW - London. Pours clear amber-gold with a frothy light tan head. Toasted wheat in the nose with nips of berries, dough, bubblegum, toffee. Medium sweet flavor with further simple toasty wheat bread, some sugary toffee, mild bitter dried berries. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderate sweetness to finish, with some dry toast, toffee, ripe and dried fruits, berries, plum, fig. Tasty, albeit fairly simplistic.

Draft at GBBF 2013, day 3 - London. Pours clear orange-gold with a frothy white head. Bready nose with hints of butter. Light sweet flavor with more bread, some semi-sharp orange. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Dry bready finish with nips of toffee. Fine.
