33 cl bottle poured in to a Trappist glass. Dark, amber colour with a slight golden hue. Thick, lightly tanned cap on top, that fades to a thin layer. Good looking. Sweet aroma with rich caramel malts, liquorice, yeasts that comes as peaches and other sweet fruits. Subtle alcohol with a touch of oranges - almost like Cointreau. Taste is sweet. Full body with a creamy texture and a lively carbonation that fades fast. Finishes slightly dry with rich malts, yeasts and spicy hints. Sweet fruits and orange liqour. Excellent and rich Belgian.

330 ml bottle, vintage 2013, bb 11/10/2015.
Dark copper-brown body, with a lot of floating yeast and a small, creamy, beige head.
Aroma of caramel, dried fruits, berries, cocoa, milk chocolate, some pices.
Tastes of dried fruits, cocoa, caramel, cinnamon, some toast, some wood, subtle alcohol.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes smooth, medium sweet, a bit dry, slightly roasty, with cocoa, wood, spices, fruits, some alcohol warmth.
Really tasty. Very smooth and perfectly balanced, complex, but also feels simple at the same time. Quite sweet, but not too much, with enough smooth, dry, slightly roasty notes. Alcohol is greatly hidden, just providing some warmth. Among my favourite Belgian dark strong ales I’ve had so far.

Bottle from Hops & Malt. Quite typical, yet not an extreme Belgian strong. Some candy, some booze, some fruits and resin. Full in taste and warming on the palate. Good balance, but rather low carbonation. A little more of that wouldn’t have hurt. Still a very decent brew.

BB 12/08/2016. dark yellow cloudy color, small white head. smells fruity, light grass, candy, banana, light honey, some belgian yeast, tobacco. medium body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of spices, peppery, sweetness, candy, grassy, lemon grass, parfume, flowery. finishes light sweet with notes of parfume and spices. decent but also rather boring. overall ok, nice peppery notes, but rather on the sweet side, just OK.

750ml. A few months past expiration, didn’t notice until after I bought the bottle. Unfiltered brown body, weird chunky floaties at random places in the glass. Not much of a head, but steady enough beige residue that laces the glass. I did like the old labels better, but maybe these help keep the price down. Deep fruity touches, not far removed from a Quad. I seem to remember bottles from a decade or more ago having more effervescence, maybe the age has hurt this one. Sweet, heavy, but nice brown chocolate caramel malt depth. Good, will have to revisit a fresher bottle.

0.33l bottle. Dark amber to dark brown body, thin off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, dates, reisins, cocoa and caramel. Taste of cocoa, berries, chocolate, toast and plums. Sweet and quite fruity. Very nice beer.

Clear deep amber brown colour, small frothy beige head, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Aroma roasted malts, dark fruits, raisins, caramel, spices (cloves, cinnamon, bay leaf), brown sugar, light chocolate, alcohol. Taste light heavy sweet and light to medium bitter, malty, toffee, fudge, spices, fortified wine, some alcohol, with long duration leading to a sweetbitter finish with spicy and nutty notes, warming alcohol. Full-bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation, very complex, smooth and balanced strong ale, a sheer delight, excellent.
