Pint at the Lion and Snake, Lincoln. Pours a golden colour with a creamy off-white head. Has a fruity, caramel and slightly hoppy aroma, with a fruity malty caramel flavour. There is a touch of hop in the finish.

Cask at Rising Sun, Abbey Lane - Clear reddy brown, thick lacing head. Nose is caramel, malt and a bit of grass. Taste is a malt, toffee, raisin blend, with a metallic aftertaste. A bit standard.

Cask at the Woodmans Rest, Solihull. Poured a slightly hazy medium amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt light grass hop. The flavour is medium bitter with a chewy malt, hop, light spice palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A decent smooth chewy session ale.

Cask @ The Crown, Shrewsbury. Came in here for a game of pool and this was the cask offering. Grassy with thin malts. Remarkably watery and dull.

Nose is short; yeast, caramel, slight lactose. Taste is brown sugar, caramel, nut, leading to a too-sweet note (banana milkshake?) in the soft cream finish. Moutfeel is good. I can’t get past the really odd banana note in the finish, it’s very off putting.

500ml bottle from Asda. Deep nut brown colour with a small beige head. Nutty, malty aroma with caramel. Medium-bodied. Nutty, taste with caramel, and a spicy bitter aftertaste.

Not a bad session bitter. Pours amber with pretty good head and lacing for cask. Light citrus that gives this mostly an acidic finish. OK barley presence. Cask at Max’s
