Description
After a great reception from his hobby as an enthusiastic amateur brewer, Toby Mackenzie and his wife Caroline decided to expand and go full time establishing the award winning Red Willow brewery in 2010. Their aim was to make the types of beer that they like - full of flavour yet easy to drink. Red Willow now offer a range of beers that can be found in many local pubs and shops in cask

Cask@Reading Beer Festival 2012. Slightly hazy orangeish amber colour with a mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts, mild crystal maltyness as well as rather bigtime tropical fruits, zest, citrus and floral notes. Flavour is sweet malts, some mild crystal malty crispyness, zest, some citrus as well as floral bitterness. Big bitter fruity and floral aftertaste. Quite brutal, but also balanced and pleasant.

Cask@Reading Beer Festival 2012. Deep ambery brown colour with a small off-white head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is roasted malts, some coffee, chocolate and mild ashyness as well. Flavour is roasted malts, ashes, some slight ripe fruits along with a mild spicy burn. Also has some sweet malts and liquorice to it. Pleasant!

Jet black, frothy deep tan head that dissipated to thin layer, some lacing
Aroma - soft mellow roasted malts, bit spicy, not a lot of aroma
Taste - soft roast, dark malts, touch of mellow chocolate, soft flavours, not complex, ok
Palate - very soft carb, thin body, very smooth. Finish as main flavour, some soft roast, some dryness. I think I’m getting a hint of oyster in the finish
Overall - Wasn’t overwhelmed with this one - perhaps re-rate with the bottled version

Reddish brown, gorgeous colour, clear, frothy white head
Aroma of soft fruity caramel, fruity malts, good aroma
Taste - Caramel malts, fruity malts, hedgerow fruits, blackcurrants, red berries, hint of apple, very fruity, light bitter bit spicy hops, really good flavour
Palate - Bit viscous and sticky, medium body. Finish - increased hoppiness, bit of grapefruit and slight hint of toffee apple
Overall - An excellent example of an amber ale

Orange amber, clear, no head. Fruity orangey malts, zesty, orange marmalade, lots of hoppy bitterness in finish with sweet grapefruit resins, good hoppy bite. The finish is the best part of this beer.

Cask at the Craft. Clear amber beer, little white head. Smooth palate, semi dry. A little toffee in the malt which has some dark character. Nice hops, juicy and fresh - red berry fruits and jiucy orange marmalade. Semi dry finish. Decent.

Black, rich thick tan head, good lacing.
Aroma - soft smoky roast malts, hint of spice
Taste - Soft roasted malts, sweet dark malts, some light sweet smoke, hint of sweet cured bacon, the smokiness is just enough for me - not overly done.
Palate - soft carb, medium body. Finish of soft sweet spicy roast and a bit of psychological chilli (!) - it could be there
Overall - Not a fan of really smoky beers - the smoked sweetness got a little clawing towards the end, but it was certainly a good beer

Cask at the Craft. Opaque black - brown beer. Little tan head. Light palate, semi dry and low carbonation. Starts with a trace of apple and pear followed by good toffee. Light red berry fruits. Mild smoke. FInishes semi dry and tangy. Quite a fruity smoked porter. The apple and pear taste like natural bi products rather than the beer being green. Very nicely done.

Cask at the Craft. Clear amber beer, tidy off white head. Light palate, fairly dry. Nice malts - a light presence but with dark characteristics and a whisper of smoke. Mild but juicy hops that are a little orange - lemon citrus. Finishes dry with a mildy smoky malt aftertaste.
