Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 2nd June 2015. Slightly hazy coppery amber with shallow, off-white spot-lacing foam. Zesty peely citrus orange citrus aroma. Tangy "St Clements" citrus in-mouth, tempered biscuity malts. Fruity citric finish with peel and maltiness. Engaging texture and full body. Rated as a novelty ale, superb drink.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - opaque black with a nice head. Nose - molasses, tar as the man says, toffee and chocolate too. Taste - liquorice or tobacco. Then hazelnuts, dark chocolate, tar again. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - a nice interesting beer.

Cask at Reading BF. Gold in hue, as you’d expect. Light lemon with a little caramel and a mildly crisp finish. Your archetypal middle of the road UK golden ale, and there’s nothing wrong with that on occasion.

Cask at the Black Bull, Haltwhistle. Mid to dark gold. Hay and slightly herbal note in the aroma. Taste is bittersweet and not particularly complex. Short to medium finish. Easy drinking but this one doesn’t engage me.
