Tap at the brewery tap in Kobe. Dark red/brown colour with small beige head. Smoky roasty aroma, bit of dark chocolate. Taste is slightly bitter, but milky. Nice lingering malty finish. Quite nice, but bit of a confusing one.

Tap at the brewery tap. Pale yellow colour with a white head. Not a huge amount of aroma. Taste is nice and crisp with a wheaty finish. Medium carbonation. Not that exciting, but nice enough pilsner.

Rokko Yuzu Saison 5% A spicy wheat aroma of cloves and white pepper says saison while tart acidic Yuzu completes the package. The taste is pretty acidic tart citrus but also a bit of toughness added to the saison elements. It’s alright.

Rokko Hazy IPA 5% Murky and muddy looking this generous pour of haze has a decent juicy aroma and alright mouthfeel for the style but the taste is just so so. OK. On tap at the Karasuma Night Market.

Tap at Zest Oike Festival. Pink-ish gold color is nice and fits the name. Clear. Nice aroma of sakuramochi--pickled cherry leaves. Crisp, light body. Rather astringent finish is a turnoff.

Apparently this used to sold as Rokko’s IPA... Rokko Brown Ale 5% Bottle picked up at a souvenir shop in Portopia for around 500¥ in Kobe. It’s a clear amber brown with a pale beige head and a sweet caramel and citrus aroma. The taste is toffee and biscuit with a dry-ish finish. A bit of herbal hops in the finish, as a brown ale it is fine if this same recipe was ever sold as an IPA that is tragic. When it warms up you get diacetyl so drink it fast. It went from 3.3 to 3.1

Tap @ Tsukuba Craft Beer House. Pours deep ruby red with nice frothy pink head. Looks like they used cassis in this beer (and they actually did, heh-heh). Fruity sweetish nose, actually getting some gummy bears and light tart cassis character. Taste is fruity, not that much recognizably cassis but tart and delicious. Malty body still, refreshing to a degree, somewhat sweetish but some light bitterness balancing it out. Perhaps not in the greatest balance but not badly done beer.

Tap @ Tsukuba Craft Beer House. Pours hazy whitish yellow, some white foam on top. Nose has some sweet banana, light spices, pretty estery. Tastes more malty and cloves and spices are coming out quite clearly. Served in a good condition, so feels fresh and herbal character is also nicely represented. Tasty weizen, refreshing.

Tap at Komachi. Deep orange-gold with reddish notes, hazy, with a low head. Nose is mango, pineapple, creamy, coconut. Juicy pineapple more than mango, lots of coconut as well, finish is slightly rough, and the sweetness from the lactose is a little unnerving.

Tap at CBL 2018, someone shared this with me and I was like “Don’t you men Marca?” They answered “no, Rokko” so I was kind of surprised but happy to try it. Rokko mango milkshake is a lactose infused brew. There’s definite coconut notes and lactose and while the finish is dry I don’t get much ipa about it. Pretty solid and a cut above most Rokko brews. 3.6
