Description
In 2010, David and Andy were looking down the barrel of economic downsizing in their industry. Looking at it as an opportunity instead of a problem, the two set out to take their basement hobby to a new level. The dream of all home-brewers; to go "legit" and open a commercial brewery, presented itself as a once in a lifetime opportunity. The two agreed upon a Nano Brewery (1 BBL brewhouse). Although they were hopeful it would be well received, they had no idea the amount of interest the locals had for craft beers. Along the way they found and hired on some awesome people to bring the brewery altogether. Blackrocks still brews beer at the original pub on 3rd St, as well as a 20 BBL production system in Marquette. two key ideas fuel Blackrocks on a day to day basis, always make the best beer possible and always have fun while doing it.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish tan head along with some lighter white-ish lace on the side of the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, oats, grain, alcohol, pit fruits, earth and a big dose of caramel - very nice and super sweet smelling! Medium to Slightly Full-bodied; Strong earthy and nutty flavours at first with a big dose of grain along with some caramelised sugars and an oaty and very mineral-y like flavour along with some lactose and milk/cream. Aftertaste shows some oats, caramelised sugars, grain, earth and a lot of pitted fruits coupled with some light herbs and a touch of figs coupled with the grain and very oaty/earthy flavours. Overall, a nice and relatively muted earthy, malty beer with some nice sugars and not any real pungency throughout - pretty nice, and the time in the bottle did it well! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Seaway Party Store in Grand Haven, Michigan on 09-September-2015 for US$9,79 sampled at home in Pungoteague/Onancock, Virginia (Eastern Shore) on 28-May-2017.

12 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 4/5/2017. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Nice dense foamy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of steaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, pear, mango, melon, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/earthy hops and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, pear, mango, melon, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, grassy, spicy, citrus peel bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, pear, mango, melon, papaya, lemon/orange peel, pepper, pine, cracker, bread dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/earthy hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance. Slight lingering hop astringency through the glass, but not overwhelming. Very clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes present. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness and carbonation, increasing through the glass. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready/grainy/sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6%. Overall this is an awesome hoppy pale lager! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/earthy hops and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink; despite the increasingly bitter/drying finish. Very vibrant and a bit dank on hops; with nice solid malt backbone. This is definitely near IPL territory on the hops and bitterness. A really delicious offering.
