Huge white head, utterly stable, fed by very lively carbonated veiled yellow-golden beer. New World hops, faint citrus, and lots of (exotic) fruit; bit of cat’s pee (the Simcoe). Bitter, dry. Fruit, but less prominent than in the nose. Wheat is present too. Bitter fruit is definitely what springs to mind (just hope it ain’t the grapes of wrath...) Quite carbonated, obviously. Wheatslickness, medium bodied. Quite well-received; it probably won’t fit the profile of the average inquiring consumer, so it won’t survive the preselection?

Bottle from Drinkmonger. Murky ruby/brown body with a huge, sturdy tan head. Excellent lacing. Aroma of sugared plum, caramel and grapefruit. Flavour of toast, sweet lime and blood orange. Very bitter and dry. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Not as rich and chocolatey as some, but an excellent Black IPA - looks and tastes like a blend between a Black IPA and an IPA.

Bottle from Drinkmonger (2014) and keg at BBP (2023). Hazy golden body with a massive white head. Lively carbonation. Nice lacing. Aroma of dusty yeast, lemon, dirt and mandarin. Flavour of orange sherbet and lemon. Very dry and bitter. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft fizz. An excellent IPA - big on the bitterness. Reminds me of The Cone by Top Out.

Bottle @ ’Er Klopt Iemand Op De Deur" Samson & Gert Bierproeving I.’ Thanks PriorL & Mathieu87! Hazy yellow colour, white foam. Medium carbonation. Sweet nose with notes of coriander and wheat. Light citrus taste. Easy drinkable. Not bad.

Good white head over faintly veiled golden beer, greenish sheen. Leafy, citrus, laurel, limezeste, quite inviting. Very dry, with dry grains, but also dried leafy herbs. Quite refreshing, faint grist slickness, quite spritzy. Surprisingly light feel for its claimed ABV. Quite interesting, refreshing beer, but its ABV might dampen ideas of a summer session ale.

33 cl. bottle sampled @ "Er Klopt Iemand Op De Deur" Samson & Gert Bierproeving I. Thanks to PriorL & Mathieu87! Large creamy head, good lacing, clear body, light color. Light malt, hay, barnyard, fake citrus, pepper, dough, totally dominating coriander finish. Light body, mineral, very faint salty. Lively carbonation. Okay but despite everything this just feels like another coriander overkill witbier. Just as with the first series I feel like the results were riged & hey decided in advance what they were going to release, this is not only the most dull & typical of the 4 Proto beers but also the one that I rated the lowest without any hesitation.

11/VII/14 - 33cl bottle @ Eerste "Er Klopt Iemand Op De Deur" Samson & Gert Bierproeving (aka Epic Beer Tasting III) - BB: I/2016 (2014-790) Thanks to PriorL & Mathieu87 for sharing the bottle!

Clear pale yellow beer, small white creamy head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of banana, pretty sweet, very yeast, bit bready, sugary. MF: soft carbon, medium to light body. Taste: bit sweet, banana, overload of coriander, yeasty, sourish notes. Aftertaste: very spicy, sourish, boring, it was to be expected that the most boring of the four would win... Not sure if this was a real contest, or they just decided to choose the least offensive (and inevitable the one with the most dull taste profile) to come out as the winner. A shame, as the other 3 were interesting to very good.

Bouteille 33cl @ RBBSG III.
