Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

473 ml can. Pours amber with light head. Aromas of doughy malts, soft resiny pine, breadfruit, and a little tropical fruit. Flavors of bitter grapefruit, pineapple, and bready malts with just a bit of pine. A nice IPA, but just a bit too malty and soft for me.

Pours slightly hazy gold with a fading white head.
Nose shows heavy apricot, funk, elderflower, marzipan.
Flavours include more apricot, a bit of coconut from the wood, elderflower, funk, and a refreshing acidity.

Dark brown. Not much head. This has some beautiful umami, I mean Bellwoods does have one of the best base impies in Canada, and it shines here. The foeder lends only a touch of tannin, there isn't any wildness or anything. It's just an impy aged in a neutral barrel. Gets lighter than some other Bellwoods, but maintains malt complexity. But that's the point, bring some oak to a good base.
