Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Bellwoods Intermodal Cab Franc 2024 6.5% (R)

This beer is a beautiful deep purple raspberry type color with a musty funky cork vinous aroma medium bodied but very dry and acidic with a prickly carbonation. You really get the Cabernet grape flavor and the wild ale acidic funk. For me the acidity is a touch too high but it’s an interesting beer for sure.

Bellwoods Donkey Venom Raspberry (L) 8.6%

I think this might be the third donkey venom variant I try. This one is a dark chocolate brown with wispy beige foam. It has a nice beige chocolate covered raspberry aroma. Medium to full bodied but bone dry with a raspy carbonation and prickly mouthfeel. The taste is excellent, totally chocolate covered berries. Yum, this would be fantastic with any chocolate or berry dessert.

473mL can, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of resinous hops, light pine, and plenty of dry, bready, caramel malt to back. Flavour is amply bitter, with plenty of resinous hops, bitter pine, and still a solid malt backbone that doesn’t overdo it. Excellent west coast from the east coast.
