Bottle Share at Ratebeer meet up, Cotteridge Wines, Cotteridge, Birmingham Saturday 5th March 2016 Pours pitch black with a beige head, this is a very big beer, thick in the mouth, molasses, rich, if this is rum barrel it is one of the first of this ilk that I have enjoyed. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 3.8

Cotteridge 2 tasting. Black beer lasting tan head. Mint chocolate chip ice cream . It’s a bit too much soy chocolate. Too much mint fades. OK dark chocolate

Brown bottle, 500 ml, via Philippe Boutin (merci!), savoured on February 29 2016; eye: golden, slightly hazy, good head of off-white head made up of rather large bubbles, average lacing; nose: citrusy hops, pine, light tangerine, refreshing; mouth: citrusy hops, pine, light tangerine, acidity, finale in tangerine with presence of hops, medium-light body, good carbonation, mildly bitter, lightly sweet, foamy texture; overall: nice surprise FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 500 ml, via Philippe Boutin (merci!), savourée le 29 février 2016; œil : dorée, très légèrement voilée, bonne couche de mousse blanc cassé formée de bulles plutôt grosses, dentelle moyenne; nez : houblon citrique, pin, léger tangerine, rafraîchissant; bouche : houblon citrique, pin, léger tangerine, acidité, finale en tangerine avec présence de houblon, corps moyen-léger, bonne carbonatation, moyennement amère, légèrement sucrée, texture mousseuse; en résumé : belle surprise

Bouteille 500ml, gracieuseté de msjpearson, Thanks Mike! Couleur rouge rubis foncé voilé, fine mousse beige fugace. Arôme de cerise, malt, vinaigre balsamique, fraise, Brett, soupçon d’alcool. Goût de cerise, malt, bonne acidité, légère amertume, fraise des champs, cuir, boisé en fin de bouche. Carbonatation moyenne-élevée, corps moyen.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a medium size dark brown foamy head with good retention. Aroma of sweet cherry and raspberry notes with faint roasted malt and loads of black chocolate notes is quite interesting. Taste is a lot sweeter than expected with loads of cherry and raspberry notes with creamy black chocolate notes. Body has quite the oily texture with good carbonation. This is closer to a Black Forest cake than an imperial stout. Very interesting but gets a bit cloying toward the end.

Bottle from the brewery. Pitch black pour with a small dark khaki head that recedes quickly to a sheet. Nose is prominent cherries with lighter chocolate, plum, raspberry, roasted nuts, coffee and notes of wood and smoke. Light sweet malts to support a medium+ tartness with the raspberry in the start overtaken by the cherry in the finish. Moderate bitterness of chocolate and coffee keeps the finish quite dry. Full creamy mouth with soft carbonation. Cherry blends with the alcohol in the nose and it is quite well integrated in the taste - dangerous. Haven’t had the original but the cherries and raspberries work well. 9/3+/8/5-/17

5th Feb 2016: 4th International Beer Swap @ De Bierboom in Brugge. Large sample from one of two bottles brought over for all to share. Dirty brown with a foaming head of beige bubbles. Nose was a mixed bag of malty molasses, off wine notes and chocolate. Flavours were as the aroma suggested but with a hand full of nuts and mixed spices thrown in. All in all a ’sweet and sour’ sort of Quad, mostly leaning towards the sour end. Different and interesting.

Keg at RB Best Festival, 31/01/16. Black with a dirty tan head. Nose is rich malt, spice tangy cherries, dark chocolate. Taste comprises liquid chocolate, black forest gateaux, molasses, light roast,cherry sstones, tar. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid well balanced impy.
