Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Tap at the brewpub. Hazy orange pour, with a medium white head. Right off the bat you get hit with some i toxicating orange zest funkinesss. Some great peach, and nectarine come thriugh after accompanied by some soft white wine grapes, the sourness is subtle, and soft, and alloys the fruit aromas and flavours to come to the forefront, and linger on your palate. The peach takes over at the end with a solid acidity your expect from a very dry, bright, fresh, reisling. A complex and beautiful beer. Another world class effort from arguably Canada’s best brewery.

Can from the brewery. Cloudy, murky, opaque orange pour, with a large white head. A massive blast of peach and mango to begin. As the aroma develops there is some mint, and Basil, with copious amounts of freshly zested orange rind. Mouth feel is perfect, carb is the same. Low bitterness, alcohol is nowhere to be found. Dangerously easy drinking for a dipa. Huge dose of citrus in the end, light pithiness, and I find some nice mint carries all the hops and fruit to the finish line. High end stuff.

Cask days 2015.
Red pour, cloudy, with a small pinkish head. Aroma is all sour cherries with a nice slightly sweet fruity overtone. Finish is quite tart, full of tart fruit, sour cherry, and some nice earthy, grassy, woodiness.

Ripe cantaloupe, freshly squeezed grape juice, nectarine, peach, and apricot. Freshly zested lemon, and orange oil. Quite the incredible Aroma. Body and mouth feel are good, carb is solid. Finish is light to medium bitter with some slight citrus pith. Incredibly drinkable, outstanding beer.

Tap at the brewpub. Truly a light porter. Reminded me of an oatmeal brown ale. I can see how if was put in the porter category though cause it was quite a bit roastier than a brown ale would be. The oatmeal added a great full bodiedness to the motuhfeel, and the roast was solid and satusfying throughout. There is a pronounced nuttiness that balanced well with the slight, and i mean slight pine resin hopiness i found near the end. A superb drinking full bodied dark, mdelicious ale. Kinda a mild, porter brown hybrid. Bellwoods hits another homerun.

Tap at the brewpub.
Hazy orange pour, with a finger of slightly off white head. A beautiful bouquet of floral citrus fruit, zest, and juicy leafy, green hops. An aroma worthy of a perfume bottle. The body and mouth feel are spot on, if anything a tad soft. The finish is slightly bitter, and very quenching with a clean, dry grapefruit zest punch. Superb!

Cask days 2014.
Big funk, lots of earthy wood notes, tart cherries, and some alcohol. Very sour finish, lots of tart fruit, and more wood, with touches of vanilla in the finish with a slight lactic sourness.

On tap at the brewpub on a snifter. Jet black pour, with a big, full mocha head. The aroma is a boat load of roasted malts, soy, charred malts, burnt coffee, dark ripe fruit, and some woody, vanilla sweetness. The aroma is intoxicating and quite complex. As it warms the fruity sweetness of the rum comes through. The body is thick and luscious, with a soft carb. The finish is velevet on my tongue. Super satisfying, but still quite bitter. Huge roasty notes, sweet wood, vanilla, a slight herbal notes that fades quickly to a snappy pine resin hoppiness, then a crescendo overly ripe, overly sweet fruit, and slme soy. Wow, what a masterpiece,

Jet black pour, dark brown head, looks gorgeous. Intense roasty, vharred malt aroma. Also lots of cocoa power, coffee and a subtle sweetness. The mouth feel is viscous with a medium to soft carb. The finish is where the coconut comes through big time. Huge notes of coconut and that subtle sweetness from the aroma turn into a distinct vanilla flavor. All in all a nice beer, but the finish is quite sweet, and the coconot takes over at the end. Still, a great sipper!

500ml bottle. Hazy yellow pour, large white head. Tart aroma, loads of lemon, some wheat and some white wine notes. This is quite interesting, some light mango, stone fruit, even some pineapple, these tropical fruit are quite interesting with this wheaty, yeasty, tartness. Odd, but intriguing. I like it!
