Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Tap at the brewpub. Pine resin forward hop aromas. Medium bitterness. A nice hop to showcase, leans more towards the pine hop spectrum. Quite nice.

Loads of tropical fruit, slight funk, and some lovely floral hops. Some solid white wine acidity also. I think this would be a great into to beer for people who are big fans of a fruity, and slightly funk white wine. Medium bitter finish, loads of fresh green hops, and lots of citrus and tropical fruit. Super zesty, and tangy. Great stuff!

Bottle from the brewery. A very piney, catty aroma. Reminds me alot of DFH 60, with alot more malts and alcohol. This is a big beer, the alcohol is evident, and the malts are chewy. The hops are quite pungent and catty, with a nice candy, juicy citrus finish. The bitterness is quite intense, and lingers.

Golden straw colored pour, with a small white head. A fresh, winey, acidic aroma, the sauvin hops are right up front. The flavor is very mild, slightly tart, quick dry finish. Loads of flavour, no booze, slightly tart, what an amazing patio session ale. This stuff will fly off the shelves if they brew it in the summer.

Bottle from the brewery. Pungent, catty aroma, winey, and acidic. Seems like sauvin was a main hop in this one. Nice balance between the hops and the cereals. The alcohol is well hidden, the beer is refreshing and deceivingly light. Nice ipa.

Bottle from the brewery. Hazy golden pour, small off white head. Aroma of tart, candied lemons, sweet fruit, and some pungent hops, with a disctinct tartness. Active motuhfeel, good carb. The finish is loaded with lemon and swwet fruits with a solid tart/sour kick in the finish. The alcohol is very well hidden, i wonder what a few years of age would do to this. A very easy drinking 10% beer, dangerous, but delicious.

This was a BIG beer. Not sure of the alcohol, but it felt like atleast 12%. Aroma of sour malts, coffee, cherries, and booze. The mouth feel was thick and oily, and the carb was almost gone. The finish was warming and boozy, with tart, charred malts. Interesting, but not my thing.

Bottle from the brewery.
Jet black pour, huge dark brown mocha head. Huge amounts of dark, charred, burnt malts. Notes of bitter cocoa, espresso, and hints of tart cherries. The mouthfeel is thick and luscious. The carb is soft but doesnt detract from the beer. The finish is highly bitter, loads of burnt malts, and hints of bitter hops. the barrel comes through in the finish slightly, but the malts just overpower everything. this is a big beer.

On tap at Bellwoods.
Hazy orange pour, big, sticky head. Aroma of juicy, citric hops, with some light pine resins. This is quite a floral beer, i feel it could fill a room with the aroma, i could smell it before even getting close to the glass. The mouth feel is perfect, but the carb is quite soft. The finish is to be expected, quite bitter, but there are huge citrus notes, with more pine resins. A pretty straight foreward DIPA, but quite well executed.

Bottle from brewery. Black pour, beige head. Great roasty smoky aroma with hints of coffee, soy and cocoa. The body is light, and refreshing. The finish is dry, lightly bitter, with a great solid roasty semi sweet finish. Incredible stout!
