Description
Great Beer Above All Else

Surly: The frustration we felt when we couldn't find a good beer, much less a great one, in Minnesota. So we made some.

Great beer is all that really matters. Well, that and pushing your limits a bit, looking out for your people, taking pride in where you’re from, and having as much damn fun as you can while doing it.

Can from a generous trader. Pours dark brown, almost black. Tan head. Nose of smoked malt, freshly brewed coffee and roasted barley. Taste is the same. Lots of freshly brewed coffee. Creamy mouth feel. The closest beer to drinking an ice coffee that I’ve had. Full to medium body.

can thanks to Tyler! Pours hazy yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is doughy with lots of pale grains, a little soapy. Flavor is unreal for style and abv, creamed corn, hay, very grassy and earthy all the way through with a nice crip finish of grits and earthen hops. Really nice stuff.

Sampled from can with my good friend raveskdr.I normally don’t buy into the hype, but man the moment this one was poured, it was freaking awesome. Poured an orange color with a medium-small white head. Aroma was grapefruit, pine, hoppy hoppy hoppy. Bitter, pine. It was so wonderful. Alcohol is about perfect, at only 6.2%.

Bottle thanks to ygtbsm94: poured a thick black oil color with a creamy brown head. The head sits on top like a protective layer of goodness. Aroma is heavenly chocolate, dark fruits, and coffee. Taste is dark raisin fruit, slight sweet chocolate, and slight bitter coffee touch.

2009 bottle. Pours black with a beige head. Dark malts dominates the aroma. Notes of soy, liquor and chocolate. And something that reminds me of Kaggens honey qualities. The taste is well balanced - sweet at first, ending salty. The clash between chocolate from the malts and the fresh US hops adds a touch of mint.
