Bottle. Very dark brown, clear-looking beer topped by a dense, light tan head. The aroma has some molasses and licorice, roasted malts and a lightly sour touch. Some hints of dark chocolate and prunes too. It’s full-bodied and smooth, semi-sweet, with licorice, coffee and molasses dominating the flavor. As in the aroma, there’s also some chocolate and dried fruits. Lasting finish. Nothing impressive going on here, but it’s a tasteful beer, even though it’s not a beer I’d repeat. 150626

Bottle. As Jeff Stout. A dark brown beer topped by a small, dense, light tan head. The aroma has a funky touch, as well as roasted malts, coffee and some prunes. It’s medium to full-bodied, soft and smooth on the palate, perhaps a bit low on carbonation. Sugary yet not sweet flavor with some pleasant sour notes. Dark chocolate, some coffee, roasted malts and brown sugar in the flavor. Lasting roasted finish with a sourish touch. Interesting, but not fantastic. A bit unbalanced, and it would be nice with some more body and alcohol. 150621

12 ounce bottle, 5/29/15. Near black, large foamy tan head, fair retention. Aroma of roasted malt, bourbon, raisin, ashy notes. The taste is strong tart fruits which dominate everything else. Hints of roast and whiskey. Thin bodied, clearly off. Sad.
