On Tap in Hongkong. Smooth malty, fresh, not too deep. Roasted smooth with no bitterness. Round and fresh. Malty with a nice roasted sweetish aftertaste.

Pouring an orange brown with an off-white head of foam Suntory’s Brown Ale has a mild bready chocolate aroma, very very mild. Med-light bodied verging on watery, the taste is a decent semi-sweet chocolate and bready biscuit with a bit of fudge. Better than I expected.

Let’s follow HiteJinro’s English Pale Ale(Queen’s Ale Blonde) with Suntory’s new crafty Pale Ale now available nationwide. 5% can served in a tulip. It pours an exceptionally clear matte copper with a decent head of foam and lacing. The nose is fruity hops with a syrupry sweet character. Medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel. The taste is fairly bland, with a surprisingly bland bitterness as well. The cool can and decent aroma promised but the taste under-delivered, still it is OK.

Poured into a teku showing honey gold and sparse clean white foam. The nose shows somewhat tart malts. The palate is clean and refreshing, a bit of sweet malts on the mid palate, and a slight bitterness at the finish. Pretty much a slightly less intense version of a pilsner. Not great but not interesting.

Bottle from Lawson. I was surprised to see it is a dark green glass like a wine bottle. The nose when poured into my pilsner glass was a bit skunked earthiness with some crisp biscuit/crackers. Looking at the brew date, it was made in March so I should have tried this when it was fresher. Medium bodied with a crisp refreshing mouthfeel. The taste is semi-sweet biscuity malts with green bitter hoppiness and a clean finish. Alright but seeing other reviews the pattern seems to be: March fresh and tasty and subsequently slowly losing it’s luster. Drink this as soon as you can because it isn’t improving with age.

Can from Lawson. Deep gold, clear, huge, fine head. Nice citrus hop nose, lemon, a bit of grapefruit, a touch of tropical. Decent. Light, crisp malt. Malt comes on more int he mouth, a bit sweet, oranges, stone fruits, grapefruit. Not bad. Crisp, crackery, nicely dry and bitter finish. Not surprising or full-flavored, but decent enough.

Can from Lawsons. Brown-orange color, clear, tall, fine, off-white head. Light caramel malt nose, chocolate, minerals, touch of orange and raisin. Not bad, but too minerally and a bit weak. Flavor is better, chocolate and caramel, a bit of grass. Somewhat thin but not too bad. Probably better than a Newcastle Brown. Won’t really need another though.

Can from Yamaya. ¥155. Lemonade nose with some malts coming through, can’t tell if I get hops or not. Somewhat strange pissy yellow color, clear, low lace, bubbly. Sweet and lemony, but yes, there is some beer in there. This is a real canned radler, or at least close. Not that I like radler, but it’s at least half beer. Decent enough body, though a bit too syrupy. This one will be the last one. Not terrible.

Can brought back from Japan by Terry, thanks for the opportunity! Brilliant medium golden color with a frothy white head. Skunky almost dusty aroma with little else. The flavor is horribly light and somewhat metallic, this could be an older can. Nice to try, but nothing to ever seek out.

Can from Aeon Mall. Metallic aroma, earthy, grassy, light tinny caramel, a touch of cherry. Orange-amber with lace. Rather light colored. Malty caramel flavor, again too metallic, and a bit grassy. Very light and boring. Quite useless and disappointing.
