Description
The original Sea Dog Brewing Co. was founded by Pete Camplin, Sr. on May 17th, 1993 in the historic shipbuilding town of Camden, Maine, starting with a 240 seat brewpub and kegging brewery overlooking the dramatic waterfall of the old Knox Woolen Mill. On March 8th, 1995, Sea Dog opened a second facility, this time a 540 seat restaurant and brewery on the banks of the historic Penobscot River in downtown Bangor. In 2002, master brewer Alan Pugsley and entrepreneur Fred Forsley became the new owners of Sea Dog. Their crew continues the tradition of serving great food in a great atmosphere and brewing a full line of handcrafted ales that capture the spirit of Maine's sea-faring history. Today, Sea Dog Brewing Company operates brew pubs in three locations. The Sea Dog in Topsham occupies a scenic spot on the Androscoggin River. The Bangor location overlooks the historic Penobscot River. The South Portland location is near the Maine Mall. All three of these locations serve a full menu of handcrafted ales and creative pub fare with a flair. Being authentic is important to us. Our beers are brewed in a traditional style using only the highest quality ingredients like imported English two-row malted barley and British top-fermenting yeast. Our English brewing style results in brews with a distinctive, refreshing taste and crisp finish unique to top-fermented beers. Cheers!

Tasted as Kennebunkport India Pale Ale, and mentioning Pugsley Brewery, Portland on the label... Deep orange-copper beer, clear, with a small yellow head, fast gone; Bit solvent initially in the nose, then more classical hops. Not really overwhelming. Sweetish, caramelly taste, quite malty with a good hoppy, if nowhere bitter background. Cookies, very faint orange. Quite spritzy, carbonated MF. Light body. Only in the aftertaste, a discreet spike of metallic bitter appears. Run-of-the-mill IPA, no faults. Thanks, DA!

12 fl. oz. bottle, bought at the GBBF 2008 for takeaway. ABV is not stated on the bottle, but the festival programme says it’s 4.8%. Crystal clear deep golden to amber colour, moderate head, fizzy. Distinct aroma of blueberries and raspberries, also notes of candy with said artifical flavourings. Thin mouthfeel. The flavour is wheaty with notes of blueberries, otherwise fairly bland with minimal hops. Not very sweet. Drinkable, but not very exciting.

Bottle at GBBF 08. Clear gold, very blueberry on aroma. Really actually quite nice. A little thin, but the fruit seems integrated. Slightly sweet fruit, but better than I expected.

Bottle. While there’s nothing here to make you sit back and take note, there is not a lot to complain about, either. Except for the slight imbalance of malt to hops — it’s a bit too sweet for the style — even for an East coast pale ale. Copper/golden body with an average white head. The aroma presents some sweet malts (caramel and dough) and some subdued hops (grass and spice). The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. The finish is lightly bitter. Medium body and a slightly sticky texture. Lively carbonation.

Bottle. Pour is a clear amber with just a bit of a head and lively and fizz-like carbonation. Aromas are thick with blueberries and reach my nose as I just begin to pour. Closer examination reveals that there is something a little funky lurking in the background, but I have no idea how to describe it. Just that it is a little off-putting. Flavor is like a blueberry spritzer or something with a watery beer backbone and a wierd aftertaste. Wheat? where??? Meh...

Bottled as Kennebunkport IPA. Pour is a lovely dark orange/copper with about a finger of dense, foamy head. Aromas of light citrus and floral hops... grapefruit and lemon come to mind. Flavor is a kind of out of whack mix of the above with some caramel malt and a bit of earwax.
