Pours mahogany tinged dark brown into a tulip. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Milk chocolate and vanilla aromas. Crisp with sweet milk chocolate, espresso and dark pit fruit upfront turning to earthy espresso and licorice in the dry, lasting finish. Interesting that this is a lager... almost drier than a dry stout.

CX draught, 3/28/24. Gentle haze. Lighter amber. White head slowly to edges. Classic APA notes of honey, caramel, pine and grapefruit. Importantly, no resin, toast or iced tea. Quite floral. Bone dry flavor. Hmm, thought there'd be more malt comfort. That said, the hops are done well so there's no resin or big bitterness. Heavily floral. A bit soapy on the finish due to how lean/dry it is. Lingering pine and grapefruit.

CX draught, 3/28/24. Clear? Dark. Small, tan head slowly to edge. Salty, chocolatey, roasty, biscuity. Really nice homogenization of the malt and Heaven Hill. No booze. Cherry, fudge, licorice and date, all on a dry canvas. Soft, rich, malty, with a bit of tar, treacle, licorice and chewy caramel on the finish. Mellow bourbon spice. Good malt, good attenuation. Certainly a dry example, medium-bodied. Lamplighter is certainly never bringing the syrup. Excellent flavors even if I do feel the double and triple mashed, extended boiled stouts are superior.

The label online says 2021. At CX, 3/28/24. Moderately hazy, medium-amber. Small, off-white head sits at cover. Sort of worty. I can't imagine there's unfermented wort in here, but that's what it smells like. I guess it's just intense cereal character. Light barrel character (sweet whiskey, hint of floral spice). No booze. Soft, almost juicy with honey and caramel. Tea and spice with a weird tannin and/or bready character. No booze, good body/texture, not too sweet, but there's still something off here...some muted flavors and blandness, possibly from the moderate amount of particulate.

CX draught, 3/28/24. Clear dark amber. Small, beige head clips at edges. Soft, rich, gently bourboned with rich, rich, soft, deep vanilla for days. Fruity yeast, bit of biscuit and light honey. No booze. Honey-like pepper with biscuity, fruity, millet. Bourbon and vanilla linger and build on the finish, with spicy acidity from honey, I assume. Very, very highly attenuated. A bit too much so. The texture lacks comfort/depth, unfortunately. Clean and no booze with good bourbon and vanilla character but it just needs a better malt backbone to bring out the flavors more.

CX draught, 3/28/24. Clear, dark amber-mahogany. Medium-sized, tan head shows strong retention. Healthy mix of lactic and acetic acid. Cherry and light hazelnut with a bit of roasted character. Clean, maybe a touch heavy on the dark malt, but not certain just based on the nose. Not overly tannic. Ah, very surprisingly full of soft, moderately sweet base malt that balanced the dark and the acid. No big acetic character in the mouth, thankfully. Chewy caramel, honey, date and cherry with oak on the finish and a hint of toast/roast. Clean, snappy and balanced. 'Nother good one from Lamp's barrel program.

375mL bottled October 2023, drunk 12/31/23. Clear cherry-amber. Small, pinkish head. Spotty cover. Strawberries are fruity, juicy, minimally acidic. Big malts showing caramel and raisin with light fruit and vanilla on the finish. Sweet, fruity, big caramel notes and strong oak turning dour on the finish with some acetic character. Very malty, burly, sweet. Not my favorite type of beer. Just very forceful and the acid blend is rather aggressive.

Pours deep garnet into a stein. Mocha head with good retention pancakes and recedes leaving spot lacing. Brown bread and dark pit fruit aromas. Crisp with sweet raisin bread, dark pit fruit and dry tree bark front to back. Lasting multi-grain sourdough finish. Becomes a little cloying as it warms.

Best of the session at this bar, and not just because it's clearly named after the worshipful Deutsche Bahn Baureihe 218. Normal people may resume now. Exactly as advertised. Delicious!
