Description
Noctua, named after the owl which is the symbol of Athens, was founded in 2016 by four friends. From the first moment we envisioned Noctua there was no discussion about where our brewery would be located. Of course in the center of our city, in Gazi. A car repair shop was transformed with a lot of work into an urban microbrewery, a reference center for craft beer in Athens that now acquires its own beer.

Bottle at Balthasar Volos in the company of Kosta, Yannis, Ele and Millie, Thursday 3rd September 2020. Pours black with a busy off white foam head. The 3c hops really give this a distinct bitterness, hops shining well. Roasty, bitter, fruits (citrus) really good.

Bottle from B is for Beer, Chania, Crete. Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting, small, foamy, beige head. Aroma of fig, raisin, dried orange peel, 'orangettes', chocolate powder, black tea. Taste has sweet fig, orange peel, raisin, bittersweet chocolate powder wrapped in biscuity-caramelly maltiness, touch of herbal black tea. Dryish, herbal hoppy finish, bit earthy, lingering dark fruit. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Initially on the sweet side but sufficient hoppiness to make up for it.

Bottle at The Hoppy Pub. Bit hazy dark golden to amber with beige head. Light spruce, grapefruit, grassy hops, mango, fresh baked bread crust, soft toffee, light roasted malts, that white stuff in grapefruit, a hint of smoke and earthy notes. Medium sweet and solid medium bitter. Medium bodied. Pretty tasty, I like it. I wish more breweries make IPAs closer to the classic style.

Bottle from Zero Cafe bar. Good one. Apparently two weeks in Turkey somehow influenced my taste and this was back to heaven.

0,33 l bottle from Melete Craft Beer Bar, Rhodes. Unclear dark golden with a two finger white head. Smooth floral hop smell. Taste is strange, hoppy Pilsener with some malt. Metallic background. Watery. Above aberage carbonation. Can not really convince.

bottle from b is for beer, chania, crete. hazy orange, smooth beige head. sweet malty and exotic fruty aroma, honey, caramel, citrus flavor is well rounded us hoppy, fainter citrussy notes, otherwise just pine, grapefruit and general hoppy bitterness. quite flavorful. malty balance is just right, it makes the hops become the center piece, but adds a sweet bottom to things. Enjoyable, quite US hoppy ale.
