Very solid porter that has aged quite well. Pours black with tan head. Nose is smoke and roasted malts. Taste of heavy smoke, roasted malts and chocolate. Smoke character really shines through with age.

Sampled at DC Epic Sour Tasting 2010. Pours a super carbonated, hazy orange amber with a very frothy, active white head. Aroma is bretty, malty, light citrus, hay, grains, yeasty. Flavor is tart, sweet, a little candy sugar, yeasty, bready. Heavy mouthfeel but otherwise dry. A total Orval ripoff. Nice though...

750 ml bottle at DC Epic Sour Tasting 2010, courtesy of ryan, thanks! Hazy orange, off white head. Aroma of sour orange peel, clove. Taste is similar, with a bit of grapefruit. Nice body. Tasty.

Pours a nice brownish color with a generous creamy head. Very strong alcohol presence. I’ve had beers with double the abv that are smoother. Seems unfinished. Rated 11/17/2000

Very odd ale. Sound of crackling in the glass like it is radioactive. Smells like cooked grapes. Tastes almost like bad wine. Rated 8/13/02

Big thanks to jw77 for sharing this one. It pours big hazy brown with copper hues and thin tan head. The aroma is amazing with rich smooth musty creamy dark fruitiness of prunes, sugar stewed raisins, figs, brown sugar, ripe plums, some earthiness and chewy aged malts in the background. I think I could just smell this all night. The taste is smooth blended sweetness punctuated by near creamy dark fruitiness like prunes, stewed raisins, plums, figs and dates. Midway the barrel notes well up and bring addition complex smoothness from a modest amount of oak and vanilla. This is just plain yum. Wow!

2005 Vintage Bottle thanks to ditmier for sharing. Pours out a cloudy straw with some orange highs topped with a small off white head. Aroma sweetness lots of candy and light hops. Taste more of the sweetness and the hops that have given up a little.
