Bottle:Reddish-amber coloured, small white foamy layer, cloudy, floaties visible; sweet dark-malty and caramelly nose with a distinctive fruity-vinous touch; sweet and slightly tart flavout, quite light bodied; sweet-fruity and dark-malty finish. Not very complex, sweet and boring........

2009 bottle, bought @ De Molen. Deep dark brown color. Licorice, dark chocolate, honey and caramel in the complex aroma. Very full bodied, malty monster, with hints of oak, licorice, honey, chocolate, laurel and caramel. Hardly any carbon, but the alcohol is fairly well hidden. Needs more time to fully develop, but already an excellent beer. Tap @ 1st BBF De Molen. Creamy aroma with toffee and haagse hopjes. Roasty creamy flavor with toffee and caramel. Roastbitter aftertaste with licorice and laurel.

(30cl bottle, vintage 2008) Cloudy, murky orange to amber colour with a short beige foamy layer. Sweet and slightly toasted malty nose with licorice, traces of caramel and a distinctive fruity note of strawberry. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Toast-malty and slightly fruity taste, mixed up with burnt caramel, which does not really work for me here. Sweet and toasty, subtle fruity finish (03.III.09).

From tap at ’t Arendsnest, 2009 version. Pours pitch black with a dense creamy and chocolate brown head. Roasted, breadish and chocolate aroma. Sweet chocolate and hardroasted malt flavoured just beneath. Distinct roasted and hops bitterness coming through. Mild cidic touch from the roasted malt although the flavour is rather smooth. Sweet chocolate and bitter hops finish. Great brew.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy orange color with an off white head. Aroma is citrus fruit and light malt. Taste is metallic with citrus fruit and alcohol bitterness on the tongue. Fruit finish remains after the alcohol subsides.

Bottle at WBF ’09 Gouda. I’ll put my rating here, but I’m pretty sure it’s the same as the other Winterbier from Emelisse. Brown coloured beer, off-white head. Aroma of is very spicy and sweet, cinnamon and ginger. Flavour is sweet, spicy, cinnamon, real winter flavours, with a nice bitter finish. Not a dubbel but a strong ale. Good one.

From tap. Pours almost clear golden amber with a diminished off-white head. Vague malty aroma, light fruity note. Sweet malty and light spiced flavoured with a mild caramel note showing through. Light fruity accent into the finish. Smooth and somewhat apple citrusy fruity too.

Draught, 7.5%. Hazy dark amber colour. Citric aroma, seems infected. The flavour has the same citrus, lactic bacteria, perhaps, some kind of sour rag. Not too dominant, but ruins an otherwise good beer, sweet and malty with a good alcohol level.
