2003 bottle @ Sunset Grille. Pours a medium brown with yellow tinges and some darker, murky, reddish-coppers. Good yellow head perched on top. Aroma of sweet caramel, light yeast and a dry, earthy root-like note, with some dry cocoa and some very smooth plum-like characteristics. Flavor is not vinous or even bocky and oily. Just a good, even caramel malt, with some raisins, smooth wheat notes, hints of alcohol, yeast and sugar. Gets very light as it progresses through the body; this is no Aventinus. good, but too subdued and never really regains ground on the finish. Even and well-balanced but a bit lacking in the flavor/complexity aspect. Havent seen this one ever since trying it one night at Sunset.

An orange beer with a white head. THe aroma is malty with strong notes of yeast - a little weird in a pilsener. The flavor is plainly malty. Nothing special.

Good hazy deep yellow with a classic tall dense wheat beer head. Mild banana estery aroma. Rich smooth filling palate delivers a mildly sweet flavor with just a bit of that wheat beer tang that I expect in the finish. Well done and probably not nearly as good as this is when it’s sampled over in Germany when it’s freshest.

Bottle. Corn malt aroma with slight syrup undertones. Dark yellow color - litlle head. Creamy malt flavor with a slight hops finish - nice taste despite the poor aroma.

Bottle. Citrusy banana aroma. Medium yellow color - cloudy. Nice malt flavor balanced with the banana and slight lemon flavors. Good body but just a bit on the lighter side.

Bottle. Mild banana/peach aroma. Light tan color with typical cloudiness. Weak malt - very little fruit flavor - a bit on the watery side - more like a Kristall. Not nearly as good as their other Hefe.

Deep amber with a clear shiny body under a thick off white head. Nice aroma of malt set everything up for a good flavor that is just sweet enough and in balance with the hops. One of the better Oktoberfests. The U.S. label is different that the one pictured, it has a checkerboard border. Nice.

Unsure of the date on this bottle. I think Eric got this from Mads Berg. A big thanks all around, as I enjoyed this one. Looks a soft rosy orange with some darker beige and light browns in the middle of the glass, small fizzy head. Aroma is a bit light and subdued, some butterscotch, light toffee and mellowed yeast notes arise. Flavor has a strong but fairly sweet-like yeast, bittersweet would be more appropriate. Great balance to it, with some even caramel notes on the finish. Hint of peach and orange in there as well. Very solid medium-full body. Surprised that this one is 7.8 abv, it was masked nicely.

Rerate from bottle: A bit juicier grainy malt, grassy hops, lighty metallic bitterness. Ok. Old rating: Aroma has hayish malt, slight sweet wort and bitter grassy hops. Copper golden, with a lowish foamy head and low visible carbonation. Essentially a Helles with a bit more pronounced malt and bitterhop flavors, the balance is still good though. Solid malt body, but strangely feels a bit thinnish on the palate. This new Superior comes in the series of beers Hacker brings out in swing-top bottles, unfortunately it is not as good as its predecessors, at least not as good as the excellent Animator.
