Description
Ruddles Brewery was a brewery in Rutland, England. The brand is now owned by Greene King who still brew beers under the Ruddles name in Suffolk, although the current recipes are not those used at the original brewery.

Ruddles became owned by Watneys in 1986, and then Grolsch in 1992, it was sold to Morland & Co in 1997. Morlands moved production to Abingdon only for that site to be closed by Greene King which took over Morlands in 2000.

There is a separate entry for the pre 1986 independent Ruddles.

Cask Conditioned. Light Brown bitter with creamy head. The flavor is hoppy from aroma hops, that gives a note of flowers and elderflower. An average bitter. Bland in flavour, not too much bitterness, sweet in malt, no outstanding features.

Cask at the Plough, Wolvercote, Oxon 25-04-06. Amber coloured, very small head which quickly disappeared quite sweet, little fruity and reasonably tasty. I had a couple of these and was pleasantly suprised as it was better than I expected and than I last remebered.

Bottled. Dark golden beer with a small, almost beige head. Malty aroma with a ligth grapefruit-like fruitiness. Medium body and a flavor that is mostly malty, but it also has some caramel, lightly roasted notes and some hops. Medium body and a bready and bitter finish, where the bitterness lasts the longest. 500ml in a Ruddles Ales glass at Blå Rock Cafe in Tromsø. Served a bit too cold. Clear and deep mahogany. Virtually no foam. The delicious hoppy aroma sets the standard for the beer. It’s a distinctive hoppy bitterness all the way through with a long and gentle hoppy finish.
