Description
Set up in 1981 as Pitfield Brewery operating from 8 Pitfield Street, N1 before moving to 4 Hoxton Square, N1 in 1986. Briefly relocated to Stourbridge following a merger with Premier Midland Ales, becoming Pitfield's Premier Brewing Co in 1990 but in 1991 the company went into liquidation.

Revived in 1996 as Pitfield's Brewery at 14 Pitfield Street, N1 before relocating outside of London to Great Horkesley, Essex in 2006 and then to Moreton, Ongar in 2007.

Martin, Pitfield's brewer/owner retired in 2012 to run a pub in Newmarket. Andy Skene bought the business and continued to brew Pitfield's beers alongside his own Dominion beers. This ceased in 2018.

Cask @ Queen Street Brewhouse, Colchester. Almost black with a beige head. Aroma is dry, roasted malt and licorice. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and roasted moderate bitter finish. 170217

Cask @ Queen Street Brewhouse, Colchester. Nice head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are roast malt, chocolate, licorice, hops and nuts. Nice dry licorice finish.

Rating from bottle collection/historic notes, source not recorded. Poured deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, light chocolate. Medium+ sweetness, moderate bitterness. Towards being full bodied, slick texture, soft carbonation. Nice.

500 ml bottle. Unclear, dark brown, almost black body with a big, dense, beige head. Strong aroma of berries, mild dark malt, hint of pine and some spices. Flavor is medium sweet malt, chocolate, cherry, slightly spicy with Christmas spices and chili, some slightly harsh bitterness. Medium body and average aftertaste. Quite nice.

500 ml bottle. Clear, dark amber body with a medium sized, dense tan head, Aroma has dark malt, chocolate, light roasted and some dry fruit. Flavor has malt and chocolate like aroma, a hint of liquorice and moderate bitterness. Medium body and light aftertaste. Decent, but a bit lightweight.

KØLF 170616. Dark brown colour with a tan head. Aroma is berries, roasted malt, cherries, hint of chili.m Flavour is berries, roasted malt, hint of chili, cherries, chocolate, cocoa. Nice/OK beer.

KØLF 170616. Black colour with a tan head. Aroma is sourness, coffee, roasted malt. Flavour is sourness, coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, apple. The beer is over the top, but still enjoyable.

[ As Pitfield Black Rose ].Clear dark black brown color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, chocolate, flowers, grass, rosehips, soapy, leather, funky, brett. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, rose hips, soapy, funky, brett. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [ As Pitfield White Rose ].Unclear . hazy matt medium yellow color with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, flowers - roses, rose water, rosehip, potpori, spicy. Flavor is moderate sweet with a long duration, soapy, spicy, rosehip, peppery. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is flat. [20141204]

Keg @ Old China Hand, Finsbury, London. Golden with a thin head. Has a mildly fruity, well stated wheat ale texture, and very palatable.
