Keg at Queen St Brew House. It pours black with a thick beige head. The aroma is coffee, rich roasted malts, cocoa, toast and treacle. The taste is smooth, mellow, rich roasted malt, coffee grounds, cocoa, salted liquorice with a dry, roasted finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Smooth, easy going porter.

Half-pint, cask at The Duke of Cambridge in Islington. Low off-white head, unclear, muddy brown body. Dotted spots on the glass. Modest smell of nuts and caramel. Nutty flavours with hints of yeast. Drinkable (London 10.04.2016).

Cask, half-pint at The Duke of Cambridge. A tiny white head to a muddy, grey-golden body. Aroma of wheat and mid-sweet spices. Fruit and banana sweetness to the taste buds, hints of coriander. So and so (London 10.04.2016).

9th Feb 2016: 500ml bottle in the Butlers Retreat, Epping Forest. Decent light ale, orange to gold in colour with a full white head. Mildly malty front with a mini citrus fruitiness in the flavour, weak aroma but overall an easy lunchtime drinking beer, which is when I had my bottle.

500ml bottle. Clear, yellow-ish golden colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Monothematic, estery peach aroma. Taste is minimally sweet fruity, hints of peach, quite neutral, carbonation induced fullness close to simple water and not free of soapiness; light and watery, prickling carbonation. Rather expressionless.

500ml Bottle conditioned: a present from my son, the last of four beers from this brewery he gave me earlier this year. Gusher, all over the bloody place, still pouring it’s self all over the draining board even as I write this, some foam got into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 25th Nov 2015. Murky brown with a red hue to the body, the foam a tanned fountain of bubbles. Malty and fairly sweet, a slight bittering in the finish. I might have liked this if it hadn’t erupted all over the dining room tablecloth, making me leap up and rush into the kitchen to drink what was left.

Bottle from Kris Wines, Holloway. Pours a reddish-black, no head. Flat body (which I’ve found with a lot of Pitfield brews). Aromas of raisin, rose petals, some coffee, a splash of chocolate. Flavours of coffee, chocolate raisin, roast meats. Very thin indeed. Improves in the mouthfeel which bumps the score up somewhat. Hmm.

500ml bottle conditioned at home on 10th Oct 2015: second beer shared with MarcusM during a random beer tasting evening. Bronze amber pour with a beige head. Hoppy and bitter overall, but with a nod towards malts in the background. Nothing to test your taste buds here, but a decent enough blend. Thanks to my son for giving me this.

500ml bottle conditioned, into a UK pint sleeve at home early on 3rd Oct 2015. Deep, dark ruby hue to the brown body, the head a full and rich tanned blanket of foam. Dark chocolate in the nose and taste, coffee prominent as well in both the aroma and flavour. Fairly smooth for a 4% ABV non-Milk Stout and full of flavour: impressed.

500ml bottle conditioned, poured carefully into a UK pint sleeve at home on 28th Sep 2015: thanks son for this present. Very slight haze in the light ’old gold’ body, the head a deep white blanket of foam. Light malts in the nose, hops ruling the bitter and dry fruity taste. Orange like flavours take over mid-sip before the dry bitterness re-appears in the finish. A bit ’lively’ for a bottle conditioned brew but a decent beer and one I would be happy to try again.
