Description
Set up in 1981 as Pitfield Brewery operating from 8 Pitfield Street, N1 before moving to 4 Hoxton Square, N1 in 1986. Briefly relocated to Stourbridge following a merger with Premier Midland Ales, becoming Pitfield's Premier Brewing Co in 1990 but in 1991 the company went into liquidation.

Revived in 1996 as Pitfield's Brewery at 14 Pitfield Street, N1 before relocating outside of London to Great Horkesley, Essex in 2006 and then to Moreton, Ongar in 2007.

Martin, Pitfield's brewer/owner retired in 2012 to run a pub in Newmarket. Andy Skene bought the business and continued to brew Pitfield's beers alongside his own Dominion beers. This ceased in 2018.

500 ml bottle. Golden body with a big off-white head. Aroma is dominated with baking yeast as Yngwie indicates (we are charring the same bottle). Flavor is harsh, sour, bitter (in a negative way) and the palate is watery. Short aftertaste. This could be infected, but then again I think a recognize some of these negative elements from previously sampled Pitfield beers. Especially after they started as a ecologic brewery. They seem to have a problem, what about quality control?

Cask@Wenlock Arms. Golden colour, sdmall white head. Very floral aroma with some slight hints of wood. Flavour is very much the same, but the wood is stronger and also some hints of wheaty sweetness is noted.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours completely black and opaque with a rough, beige head. Burned and oddly herbal aroma. Very thin and watery with unclean, burned accents. No real bitterness. This has a feel of cabbage or vegetable soup to it - yuck! 100507

(Bottle 33 cl) Comes as "Pitfield’s Winter Warmer 2002 Vintage". Courtesy og chris_o. Pours a hazy, amber golden with a small, rough head. Very fruity aroma - strawberries?? Medium body with a soft and very flat feel to it. Very distinct strawberry accents - must be the mix of spices that somehow end op producing this flavour. 090507 (Bottle 33 cl) As "Pitfield’s Organic Christmas Ale 2005". Hazy, amber golden with an off-white head. Distinct aromas of ginger and cinnamon. Medium body with a light acidity and very distinct, spicy notes. This really is a Christmas beer! 7/3/7/3/13=3.3 200507

Bottle at papsoes place, I think chris_o brought this one, so thanks to whoever it was. It poured jet black, with a small, beige to tan head. Coffee and burnt malt on both nose and in the mouth. There’s a bonfire sourness as well, in the mouth. Thin body, but then again it is only 4% ABV. The body makes it easy to drink, but boring. The finish is mostly coffee. It would probably go well as a session beer, but it is too one-dimentional and boring. (070510)
