Description
Legend Brewing Company is a commercial microbrewery providing true premium beers to many of the best pubs and restaurants in Richmond and other areas of Virginia since January, 1994. Our mission is to bring to our customers the finest and freshest brews as flavorful alternatives to mass-marketed mainstream products. We're one of the few craft breweries in this region producing both lagers and ales, which require different yeasts and maturation conditions. All Legend beers are unpasteurized and made from only two-row and specialty barley malt, hops, water and yeast.

Fairly hazy golden coloured body with a very thick, viscous feel and an ultra thin, barely noticeable off-white head and absolutely no movement at all in this. Aroma of light grass, hay, yeast, coriander seed, ginger, spicey malt and a touch of grain and even plantain and parsnips in here - interesting and rather aromatic considering the body/appearance. Medium-bodied; Assertive ginger flavour with a candy sweetness and a deep floral and spicey character that shows malt, grain, light earth and some flowers throughout with yeast finishing up at the end. Aftertaste is quite pungent with the spices, earth and yeast by far the strongest, but some ginger candy sweetness, a little citrus and a pungent saccharin and fake sugar sweetness noticeable at the very finish, as well. Overall, an interesting and rather flavourful beer, even if those flavours don’t hit too well throughout the sample, but a beer with character is nice to see, albeit the body and texture don’t really jive either. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 15-November-2016 for US$1,99 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 14-January-2017.

Total Wine, Fairfax bottle: I guess this was a pretty old bottle if it is meant to be a summer ale and the last people drank it in July. Pours slightly hazy gold with small head. Aroma is sugary and lightly spicy. Smooth and lightly spicy taste. Ginger was attenuated with age. Lime was still there. Not bad though past its prime.

Thanks altonbrownd for the bottle! Poured into a snifter showing dark caramel brown and sparse foam. Well filtered. The nose is very sweetish-malt forward with hints of tea and biscuits. The palate is light bodied and moderately carbonated. Flavors of straight bready malts with a very light sweetness. No bitterness on the finish. Light zestiness

$6.99 bomber from Market Street Wine Shop, Downtown. Bottled as Urban Legend R.I.P Ale. Pours hazy brown with way too much head. But then again, these say "fresh beer- keep cool" on the side and it was not kept cool at Market Street. Aroma of orange-black tea, pine. Flavor is pine, herbal, and a bit doughy with some underlying orange-flavored black tea.
