Description
Based in the heart of the English Lake District, brewers of bold, innovative beers since 2002, our beer range is eclectic and includes thirst quenching session beers, big hopped pale ales, deep dark stouts and sours. With a range of core beers, available in Cask, Keg, Bottle and Can.
At Hawkshead Brewery we make the sort of beer we like to drink - distinctive, full of flavour, handmade, and perfectly crafted. We are small enough to know most of our customers, not to care about the mass market, be able to brew lots of different beers, experiment and innovate. We are big enough to employ a team of five brewers, make around 140 barrels (23,000 litres) of beer a week, deliver direct throughout The North, and our Tap at our Staveley site is open every day.
In about 2017, a controlling interest in the company was taken by Liverpool-based Halewood Wines & Spirits, and this may result in further expansion.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol March 2023. Golden in colour, with a thin, white, head. Jammy citrus fruits, juicy hops, crisp malts and and a lingering bitter finish. Enjoyable, my beer of the recent JDW festival.

25/3/2023. Bottle from CentrAle, Newcastle. Shared at SBGP1. Pours black with a frothy tan coloured head. Beautiful pour. Aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, roasted malt, nut, cocoa, light coffee, liquorice and treacle. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium to full bodied, smooth and creamy, soft carbonation. Very good.

23/3/2023. Can from LowCostBeer.com. Pours clear bright amber gold with a small frothy white head. Aroma is dank, hoppy, resin, toffee, biscuit, citrus fruits. Moderate sweetness, quite heavy bitterness. Medium body, very oily, average carbonation. Bitter, piney finish. Bit old school, but enjoyable.

Bottled (from Systembolaget Umeå). Pitch black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is nutty, a bunch of coffee, some alcohol, mild toffee. Flavour is coffee, chocolate, mild nutty notes, toffee, alcohol and some mild ripe fruits. Good one, but for my own preference I'd try to get a bit more nuttiness out of it.
