At Hawkshead Brewery we make the sort of beer we like to drink - distinctive, full of flavour, handmade, and perfectly crafted. We are small enough to know most of our customers, not to care about the mass market, be able to brew lots of different beers, experiment and innovate. We are big enough to employ a team of five brewers, make around 140 barrels (23,000 litres) of beer a week, deliver direct throughout The North, and our Tap at our Staveley site is open every day.
In about 2017, a controlling interest in the company was taken by Liverpool-based Halewood Wines & Spirits, and this may result in further expansion.

From cask at Euston Tap West on the way home from Waterstones Gower Street 03.02.22. Clear pale golden. Refreshing taste of pale malt, lemons, lemon and lime marmalade with lemon bitterness. Appropriately uncarbonated. Superb mouthfeel for such a low ABV. Refreshing and quaffable.

(Draught at Man in the Moon, Stockholm, 11 Dec 2021) Amber colour with frothy, tan head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, dried fruit, raisins, figs and oak wood. Malty, fruity, vinous taste with notes of dried fruit, caramel, raisins, figs, dates, oak wood, vanilla, coconut and a mild spicy bitterness. Full body, quite sweet. Solid and well made English style barley wine with a slightly woody touch. Very nice.

Cask at the Craven Arms, Birmingham. Poured a crystal clear golden colour with an everlasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, tropical citrus fruits. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet, with a crisp, fresh, yeasty, citrus, woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Impressive and very sessionable.
