Relative bonne surprise pour cette triple qui est globalement agréable avec une présence en bouche et une longueur toutes les deux bonnes, et ce malgré un alcool ne titrant qu'à 7%. C'est ce dernier d'ailleurs qui structure la bière et lui donne du tempérament. Alors oui, les arômes sont peut-être bruts autour de la banane (levure), de la pomme, du caramel et avec épices et une pointe de citron, mais ceux-ci sont agréables. Visuel correct avec un ambré limpide surmonté d'une mousse blanche nappant tout juste la surface. Le nez se compose de banane, de pomme, de caramel, de pointes citronnées et de coriandre et avec un alcool ressortant légèrement. Bon équilibre à l'attaque avec un alcool donnant du tempérament et un houblon de la fraîcheur. On y retrouve les arômes présents au nez. En deuxième bouche, les épices (coriandre et poivre) gagnent en intensité, peut-être un peu trop. L’arrière-bouche, d'ampleur présente un alcool s'affirmant en même temps que le caractère de la bière. Le final, plus en douceur et d'une bonne longueur finalise bien la dégustation. Pour une triple à 7 %, c'est plus qu'honorable.

New En Stoemelings beer presented at BXL Beerfest as a Doppelbock; tasted there from tap and later from the 75 cl bottle that was part of the beer pack of this festival. Medium thick, pale greyish beige, mousy, rather large-bubbled and easily dissipating head, cloudy deep chestnut brown robe with mahogany hue, a bit murky in the end. Aroma of old dry cocoa powder, toffee, brown rum, dried prunes, ground pecan nuts, old dry cookies, baker’s yeast, cloves, nutmeg, bitter dried herbs. Fruity onset, raisin, plum, fig and banana notes, spritzy carb for the intended style, full mouthfeel; somewhat chocolatey, pecan-nutty and caramelly malt sweet body with an emphatic toasty-bitter side, ending with heating, astringent rum-like alcohol, lingering malt bittersweetness and hop bitterness but also a lot of bready and phenolic yeastiness. Way too yeasty in fact to justify the Doppelbock claim, it even looks a bit muddy, not to mention the alcohol which is very badly hidden. En Stoemelings, contrary to e.g. Ermitage or No Science, still falls a bit short in this ‘nouvelle vague’ or young Brussels brewing initiatives; this is not a Doppelbock, but a Scotch- or quadrupel-like Belgian strong brown ale, and not the most refined one I tasted so far.

Pours dark, rather unclear brown. Medium fluffy white head. Smell is dark bread, leaves, earthy, bit caramel. Taste is sharp, mild bitter, earthy, leaves, caramel. medium dry, nice !

Bottle shared @ Borefts 2014. Blonde, hazy. Vinous aroma with some red fruit. Sweet flavor, malt with candy sugar and dried fruit. Soft sourish notes. Sticky mouthfeel.

Towering dense snowwhite head, very slowly receding whilst fed by small-bubbled carbonation in green-shot golden beer; textbook lace. End of bottle solid yeast. Pale malts' bomb, spicy, light herbal or I herb /I . Hint at heather. Taste is intially quite bitter, then immediately sweet pale malts with a remarkable meat-like flavour - meatcrust but nowhere roasted. Finish is again dry-bitterish hoppy. In the very end, a young leafy flavour appears, giving even more depth. Light, gristslick, good carbonation, slowly receding flavours. That is a d*mn good Pilsner! Cudo's, guys. I Thanks to Stef! /I
