Description
Since 1992, McNeill’s brewery has consistently offered some of the Northeast’s finest beers. Brewmaster Ray McNeill has won accolades far and wide, including thirteen national and international awards.

Critics and food writers alike have praised McNeill’s products, including the Albany Times Union, “McNeill may be the best brewer in America,” or All About Beer Magazine, “The jewel in the crown of Vermont’s many fine beers.”

In 2008 McNeill opened the long rumored packaging facility just north of the venerable brewpub.

Today, McNeill’s packages ten different beers plus seasonals.

The brewery, closed since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, burnt down and was demolished in 2022.

At the pub. Clear pale. Mild impressions for a 6% beer. Civilized and easy to take. Rather fun I’d say. You know, this McNeill’s knows how to make high alky beers that are not rude. This one lacks many of those ill ale attributes. Liked it.

A little darker than pale yellow. Slight sweet aroma for an IPA. Has a bite on the uptake. Yes, this is a lighter IPA fer sure. But it never gets in yer face. Plenty of hop personality but never over the top. I don’t like ipa but this one is not bad.

A darker almost black beer. Spicy aroma. Spice carries over to the dark flavors but I would not say this is 7.5% as it says on the menu. Does have a decent dark beer attitude thru-out. Never gets in yer face. If this is black IPA, its one of the more mild black IPA I’ve had.

If you like ipa, flip my numbers. Me, I care not for the style but this is terribly on style. Mild ipa aroma but the taste impact is big blasting ipa flavors. Yes, the taste is near the double ipa planet. Mouth puckering bitterness abounds. What else can be said?

For an american brewed dubbel, this is probably one of the most behaved & civilized beers that I have had for a long time. Quite often American wannah bee dubbels are rude and crude, this on the other hand is fun and easy, no way can you sense the 8% in this. Glad to have the chance to get a mug of this brew.

A darker tinged amber color. First taste is slight tartness. Has a doppel background of course. Must not be 8%, way too mellow. Probably one of the better behaved d bocks I’ve had for a while.

On tap at the brewery. Slight haze on a pale beer. Somewhat flat. Easy all round in the attitude. Civilized, with manners. Yes, one of the more refined kolsch I’ve tasted. Right up any lager lovers alley. Could use a tad more co2 tho.

On tap at the brewpub. Slight co2. Clean pale in color. Mild beer aroma. Decent mild flavors. Just a tad of bitterness, enough to let you know its beer. Quite well behaved.

Look, I hate IPA so this is terribly on style, no matter what my numbers. No bo aroma. Look os haze on a pale beer. Yes, this is a big ipa fer sure. Borders on double ia territory. Doesn’t quite get there. Long bitter terribly on style finish.

Cask @ the McNeill pub. Clear pale, perhaps a little darker. Mild and easy fer sure. Winelike, mildly tart and fun. Yes, perhaps a little wild thang goen on here. Good stuff, well balanced and easy all over. Very good since I don’t like cask too often.
