A hazed dark amber ale with a thick frothy big bubbled mocha head and floaties. In aroma, biscuit malt with piney floral hops, catty notes, light sulfur notes, nice if a bit rough. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with grassy floral and resinous hops, light catty notes, alcohol warmth, oily mouth, still quite nice.

Cask and draught at the brewery, February and March 2014
Listed as bourbon barrel Imperial Stout. Not actually sure if this is their old Imperial Stout recipe aged in bourbon (or with bourbon oak chips, whichever they’re doing), or if this is just a brand new recipe. Man was their Imperial Stout good...and this is certainly no slouch, though it’s sweeter this time around, partly due to the bourbony-oak butter and richness but also in part due to more chocolatey sweet flavors. Yes, it’s no extra dry, heavily roasted, cigars and prunes delight, but it’s still respectably well-attenuated and lacks any tacky hop resins. Actually quite low on hops in genral; just some light juicy citrus notes and a bit of acidity for balance. Chewy, supple palate. Good restraint on the barrel character.

Dark brown coloured body with a touch of a ruby glow at the very bottom an d a nice, two centimetre tall oily topped brown head. Aroma of alcohol, pit fruits, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, figs, earth, vanilla, a touch of oak and a little scotch. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt flavour up front with a lot of vanilla and oak right behind. Aftertaste shows tons of sweetness, some anise and licorice flavours, a earthy and deeply roasted finish and a good warmth from this, since the body isn’t felt immediately. Overall, a nice relatively subdued imperial stout that is quite a bit thinner than beers usually in this style, but finishes well and refined and shows no harsh flavours at all - although, that might be partially due to the age (on purpose). I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 22-April-2012 for US$5.95 sampled at home in Washington on 16-November-2013, aged personally for a bit more than 18 months.
