Description
Hardywood officially began its mission to brew with purpose in late 2011 as one of only two craft breweries in the city of Richmond. Our original brewhouse and taproom was a vacant warehouse discovered in a long-forgotten neighborhood known nearly a century prior as Richmond’s German Brewing District. Hardywood has been drawing new life to this forgotten area one draft pour at a time. We now operate a 20-barrel brewhouse and taproom in the original location, as well as a 60-barrel brewhouse and destination brewery in the West Creek area of Richmond, right on the border of Goochland County.

Today, Hardywood continues to develop and deliver on its mission with a sharp focus on brewing quality, sourcing local, environmental stewardship, community engagement, and giving back.

Bourbon is well balanced here with some light vanilla notes. Some sweet plum and light smoke. Pretty full palate. Pours cloudy maroon with good head and lacing and soft carbonation. Some wood in here, finishes with light sweetness. Cask at Churchkey.

Some dark chocolate and a light taste of oak, though not sure why I’m getting that. Light coffee. Finishes with a light note of bitterness. Some nice roast malt that comes together ok. Watery texture, soft carbonation on cask at Churchkey.

Location: Draft at Hardywood, 5/2/14

Aroma: The aroma is wheat/clove, some spice notes, and some light fruity hops
Appearance: It pours a mostly clear yellow color with a fizzy white head
Flavor: Taste-wise, it has a light, clean flavor, lightly sweet and spicy, with a lightly bitter finish
Palate: The body is light, but not watery, clean and easy drinking, with a mild dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty solid wheat beer. It may not be my favorite style, but I liked that had a bit of dryness on the finish. For me, it made the beer feel a little more crisp and made the mouthfeel a little more enjoyable as well.

Like the beaux this has a great initial hop aroma but doesn’t quite follow through. In a sense, there is no great return here. Pours amber with decent head and lacing on cask. Floral and light citrus aroma. Finishes with light sweetness but a light astringent discord. Cask at Churchkey.

Location: Draft at Hardywood, 5/2/14

Aroma: It has a clean pilsner hop aroma, with some bread, spice, and fruit notes
Appearance: It pours a murky, bright orange color with a small white head
Flavor: The flavor is light, crisp, and clean, a little sweetness, and a light bitterness
Palate: It has a nice, clean mouthfeel, with an average carbonation, and a clean, light dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a solid pils, but it wasn't an amazing beer for me. It could see this working as a good porch session. It is clean, light, and drinkable.
