Description
Founded in 1784 by Jean Baptiste De Bruin and still a family brewery to this day; known as Brouwerij Schelfaut until 1919, when the name was changed to Brouwerij Bios by Paul Van Steenberge, who became the head of the operation in 1922. Currently operated by his great-grandson Jef Versele (since 1998). Underwent many technical upgrades and expansions since then, most notably in 2017 when new buildings were installed and production capacity was significantly increased.

Refreshing, fruity taste, a bit sweet. The alcohol is well hidden; might be dangerous;-)

Huge, thick, longlasting head. Yeasty aroma with citrus and coriander. Fresh, crisp taste with an alcoholic kick. An Duvel-wannabe above avarage.

Easy to drink ale, despite of the alcohol content. And that is what you feel the next morning :-)

Nose is ok - wheat, pear, apple, hint of barnyard. The colour is a little dark for the style, but its the light palate, hint of plastic and cheese-like finish that really turns me off this beer.
2 years old:
Hazy copper-amber. Cheesy, woody, sourish aroma with port, figs and orange zest. The palate is plasticy still, with corn syrup, peach, perfume, dust, mildew...some dead yeast cells perhaps? Just maybe. In fact, this dead yeast thing really sends bizarre messages to my brain, like Karakalpak yurt felt. I've only been in one Karakalpak yurt and that was a display piece, not one that had been used, so why that jumped into my head I'll never know. But that's exactly the problem with this beer, whether fresh or with aging, it's just odd, and not in a good way. I don't want to drink a stiffly alcoholic yurt, you know what I mean? Vintage rating 2.4.

Very yeasty, not my style of beer. It reminded me of Ciney and Rochefort, but not as good.

Dryish, yeasty. A substandard example, wherein the flavours do not meld well together. Nor is it as stylish as most examples.

Okay, so the glass is cool. But I found the beer to have a rather unsettling yeastiness, poorly developed malt flavours and a bloating excess of carbonation.

Opaque med-brown; light brown head; aroma of alcohol, chocolate, raisin, baked apples. Creamy texture, milk chocolate balances with some alcohol heat. Yeast, vague fruit notes. A simple beer whose popularity continues to confound me. To each his own I guess.
2 years old: Opaque cherrywood. Inch thick mocha head - impressive given the age and strength of this brew. Vague dark fruits, earth, caramel, malts and alcohol (esp. as it warms). Drinks like a warm Frosty spiked with brandy - sweet, thick, oily, sugary, vaguely fruity (gooseberry, plum, pear), artificial chocolate. Finishes too timid unless it is warm in which case alcohol attacks.
