A deep dark stout with a thick receeding moka head. A rather light subdued chocolate aroma, a bit of Nestle Quick overtones. In mouth, a good stout with bitter chocolate, nice roasted coffee notes, roasted bitterness lingering. A quaffable stout. Bottle from Half Time, from a mix 12 pack, July 2008, tasted Oct. 21 2009.

A golden amber ale with a thin creamy lacing off white head. A light caramel malt with nutty floral hops. In mouth, a decent IPA with light biscuitty malt and light floral C-hops, pleasant and smooth. And this is more than a year old. Bottle from Half Time, from a mix 12 pack, July 2008, tasted Oct. 19 2009.

A hazy golden ale with a thin white head. A rather doughy alt aroma, wiht light hops, and notes of oxidation. In mouth, a nice wheaty malt with some nice hops, a bit floral, a rather nice lasting bitterness, some fruity notes in finale, becoming cloying. Medium bodied. Bottle from Fort Collins mix 12-pack, bought at Half Time, July 2008.

Dark brown with a medium head. Chocolaty aroma with some light roasted malts, molasses, nutty and coffee. Toasted malts, nuts, chocolate, light molasses, and a bit of coffee in the flavor. Medium body. A very nice stout.

Crystal clear copper beer, with a sticky, well-sustained lace - this beer really does showcase the character of the coffee beans, without a whole lot getting in the way of their character - the aroma prepares you for this, with loads of freshly roasted beans, and not much else going on - fairly creamy in the mouth, light to medium bodied - the full character of the coffee beans is in here, but their acidity and bitterness is suppressed skillfully, with a moderate toffee and vanilla sweetness to keep anything that remains of these qualities in balance - it’s really not terribly complex, but their ability to harness the flavor of the coffee and make it work in such a light beer is impressive - reminds a bit of Furthermore Oscura, only not as artfully done (that beer has bolder coffee flavor that is more balanced and integrated) - still quite good, though.

12 oz bottle purchased as part of a beers of summer 10 pack at World Market. Pour is mostly clear golden with a one inch white head. Head falls slowly, leaving behind some patchy lace. Aroma of sweet fruit, very much smells like pomeegranate syrup, rather than fruit. The mild grain wheat is present behind the fruit. Nothing off smelling, just a bland nose. Taste follows the nose, with the syrup sweet fruit and mild grain wheat. There is also an ever so faint sourness in the back. After taste has a touch of cardboard. Palate is medium bodied, coats the mouth some before a flinty cardboard finish. As it warmed, thinned out a bit.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a clear brown body and a tan head. Aroma of smoke, toffee, caramel and vanilla. Taste is alcohol, spice, leather and a bit of bitterness. I couldn’t detect much character from the Stranahan Barrel. Light carbonation.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a foamy tan head over a clear amber body. Aroma is smokey with leather and alcohol. Taste is smoke, apple, vinous and flaked wheat. Light bubbles, very thin mouthfeel for 10.2%.

12 oz. bottle. Ah, schwarzbier is the new "black," it seems. As advertised, pours deep brown that I can just make out shapes through, bubbly brown head that brings up dark roast malt and smoke smell. Chocolate nose, too, as I bring the glass to my lips. Somehow, this dark blob is pretty easy drinking. Smoke is upfront, but not heavy or bacony, just a small wood fire in the distance. Chocolate and coffee follow up. I think the style for this beer calls for less roastiness than I detect, but it is still well done. Hold onto some for the tail end of the Bears’ season.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark orange-caramel color with a large orange-white head. The aroma was a lovely mix of strong grapefruit, light pine, resin, orange and spruce. The flavor disappointed with a dry and sour nutty presence with moderate grapefruit and pine underneath. The body was surprisingly flat given the head. This one did not quite work for me. Ok.
