Description
PROGRESSIVELY OLD SCHOOL
We make craft beer with a throwback approach. Through a combination of time-tested brewing/blending methods and modern practices, we create beer that is complex, thought-provoking, and above all delicious.
AN ALE PROJECT
We focus on truly slow beer – mainly Farmhouse Ales and Saisons in our wild brewery and lagers on our clean production side – with a passion for experimenting with other wild and traditional styles from Imperial Stouts to IPAs to Dutch Kuits.
ROOTED IN FAMILY
The name Birds Fly South is a nod to founders Lindsay and Shawn Johnson. For the last 22+ years, they lived the Coast Guard life, migrating across the country. Their family, their flock, was always looking to find their back to the south. Once they landed in Greenville, Shawn’s final station, they knew they had found home.

Keg at Churchkey. Pours slightly hazy orange gold with a thin white head. Aroma is really sticky pine resin, a lot of dank hops and a little caramel. Taste is a really bitter orange hop hit. Lots of pine and resin, really dank bitterness with the caramel just mellowing out the drying finish. Solid DIPA.

Sample at the DBLDP on 09/03/2017. This beer is a clear brownish-amber color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. The aroma consists of tart fruit, pumpkin spice and malt. Medium body with flavors of tart fruit, cinnamon, and caramel malt. The finish is tart with a pumpkin spice aftertaste. Above average overall.

Bottle from the source. Crystal clear golden color small white head. Beautiful aroma of peaches in white wine, reminds me of trips to Italy when I was a youngster. Taste is softly sour peach, more white wine, light tannins. Slightly undercarbonated but otherwise delicious.
