Description
Creative brewing is all about not sticking to the same old formula. Since 2008 we have experimented with different combinations of hops and ingredients to find both traditional and excitingly new tasting ales. We brew it with the care and attention we believe it deserves. Finest English malt is the base for all Backyard Brewhouse beers but it does not stop there. Combinations with hops such as New Age American, Old English, Slovenian and New Zealand as well as one or two other secret ingredients have helped make all our beers popular and distinctive. We are committed to creating new and interesting beers to sit alongside our range of core and regular products.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a reddish hue. The aroma is roasty malt, red berry fruits. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter, with a roasty, malt, tart red berry fruit, light chocolate palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation. Ok, but too light for a mild and too far away from the traditional style.

440ml can in Anthony's of Wellington on 13th May 2022. My second new Mild of the day, a very rare thing in deed. You'd never guess this was 8.5% ABV, so easy to drink and seemed almost like a normal 3.8% Dark Mild. Poured a clean dark amber, beige head. malty and slightly sweet, some light hop action for balance; enjoyed it.

Two hand-pulled half-pints at The Crown Inn, Oakengates during a beer festival on 30th April 2022. Really enjoyed this and I'm not usually an Elderflower sort of guy! Clean amber body, white topping. Nice blend of semi-sweet maltiness and bittering hops, no citrus fruits were hurt in making this brew.

Shrewsbury Monthly Beer Share; Chez Sophie, 11th April 2022. Five guys all passionate about beer bringing their thoughts and offerings to split between us. 500ml bottle, BBE September 2022, brought in by me. Clear golden pour, white crown. This was a decent enough beer but there wasn't an iota of Seasonal/Christmas flavour/aroma or anything. Mild citrus notes flowed through the brew, some maltiness too.

500ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, April 22. Brought by Jeremy I believe. Thanks Jeremy. Pours a generally clear golden amber, good white head. Quite a nice breezy citrussy pale, floral hints with a bitter tickle. Nothing Christmassy about it tho.

500ml bottle: BB March 2022. Drank at home on 3rd April 2022, so a month out of date on opening. Clear and clean mahogany/amber body, off-white head. Malty nose, toffee and caramel, taste also has a malty molasses type front. No Rye mentioned on the label, but it has that Rye flavour (and look) you get when it's added to a beer.
