Cask at GBBF 2015. It pours cloudy deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is toasty, earthy, cocoa, brown bread and light raisin/sultana. The taste is toasty, earthy bitterness, twig, dirt, cocoa, touch of dark fruit and wood with a short, dry finish. Light body and fine carbonation. A simple, easy-going mild. Pretty drinkable.

Half Moon Dark Masquerade 3.60% is a deep mahoganey brown with a beige head. The aroma is herbal & chocolatey. Med-full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. The taste is malty chocolate & coffee crisps. Nice body & mouthfeel make for a satisfying brew.

At GBBF (cask conditioned). Creamy, stable, light beige head, very dark chestnut colour, almost black in the middle. Aroma of raisins, liquorice, pipe ashes, white pepper, coffee grounds. Dried fruits in the mouth, bit oily mouthfeel, soft, caramelly with roasted bitterness and a smoky umami touch as the palate develops, some floral hop bitterness in the end. Another exemplary "new school" dark mild.

Cask. Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield. Clear gold. Bubbly, messy, lasting, white head. Creamy malts and soft, kiwi fruit, gooseberry and peachy hop. All very restrained, really. Has nice balance though. Taste is light sweet, turning earthy bitter. Some mineral. Full body. A bit heady. Finishes long, light, fruity bitter. Deceptively easy drinking.
